Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

ServiiGo was created and supported by a 3rd party, not Serviio. While it's unfortunate that it isn't working with Serviio 2.0, it's up to the developer to update it.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

I started on updating for 2.0 and it doesn't look like too much work but I'm really struggling for any free time at the moment (plus having just moved house again my PC isn't even setup to do the work). So I do hope to be able to release an update but it might take a while.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

Oh my!

I got the nasty notice that my license had expired... No, not expired but it was no longer valid since I upgaded to V2.0.

So I purchased the upgrade and then tried ServiiGo and it wouldn't work either. I didn't even notice anything that the program would be "expired"

I know that you aren't part of Seriio but I wouldn't mind paying an optimal fee to purchase the app if that would help grease the wheels "so to speak".

I can't even find it on the Market either.

Thanks

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

Okay I am just going to say this. I understand that ServiioGo is a third party app and you cannot be responsible for the maintenance of that app. Where I fault you is that no where I mean NO WHERE did you state that ServiioGO android app will not work with Serviio Version 2.x. I purchased the ServiioGo Andriod app Key, now that purchase is useless to me, I purchased two separate 1.x licenses, I will not purchase 2 separate 2.x license because of this. Now I am not totally pissed off because I can use MediaBrowser on all my android devices and still access my media remotely, but still I would have liked to have known that ServiiGo Android App would not work with version 2.x before I upgraded because I might not have upgraded until I had an alternate, now it is either rollback to version 1.10.1 and waste the $25 for the Pro Key to 2.x or keep the upgrade and waste the ServiioGo key purchase and then reconfigure all my mobile devices to use MediaBrowser. This is the kind of thing that can cause you to lose customers. Now I like the addition of user account, and better security, one other word ServiioGo is no longer being maintained last update was 2015-08-06 version 4.4.1. I understand that improvements are required, maybe it is time to dump a 4 year old app, now with that said I would at least like to known that was going to happen so that I could have and alternate before I upgraded.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

rbruce25: how can the Serviio developer determine if a 3rd party app no longer works after an upgrade? That isn't his responsibility. The ServiiGo developer has just stated he's working on an update, but he's currently time constrained. That's one reason I would imagine he removed it from the Play Store, until he has a working version for Serviio 2.0. I understand your frustration, but just suggest a little patience. I'm sure Will is working to upgrade ServiiGo as quickly as he can, but when you have someone doing something like this more for fun than a business, sometimes life intrudes.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

What your saying does not make sense, in other replies you state ServiiGo is not part of Serviio, but the reply to me seem it is, whatever, user testing should have shown that, or simple testing with apps associated would have too, or more simple just a caution that the update may not be compatible with legacy apps, that would have been enough for me to be prepared, and have alternates before I upgraded. I am not trying to be an a$$, I love Serviio, be using it for years, I am just asking warn us, even if you do not know but suspect there is a possibility due to changes then just put a disclaimer, this came out of left field, I always read all the release notes to check for issues before I begin, no were listed, not even a possible warning. Before I upgraded with confidence, had documentation, now I am leary, I do not know what to expect, which means I am most likely to not upgrade again. Not a good place to put your customers in.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

I'm only a user, like yourself. If the Serviio developer had any connection with ServiiGo, you are correct. But since it's a 3rd party application, it's not Serviio's responsibility to test such applications. As to any sort of warning, since it knows it uses the Serviio API, he probably assumed there wouldn't be any change in functionality. But sometimes little things can catch you off guard.

I just checked the Serviio web site, and the only place I could find that mentions ServiiGo is linked to a non-existent page. I assume that page was taken down because of the current status of ServiiGo. So the web site does not offer any information about this app. Any posts in the forum are the responsibility of the 3rd party app developer.

Don't get me wrong. I understand your frustration. And I'm sure Will will get an updated version out as quickly as he can. But I will defend the Serviio developer for not mentioning anything about ServiiGo when he released v2.0, as he most likely had no idea it would no longer work.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

I thank you for the reply, I am not hammering the developer, not trying too, I understand that things can fall through the cracks. Please take this with an open mind, you state you are a user as well, well look at it from a user perspective, I lost functionality due to an upgrade, with little or no alternative to replace the functionality, you see users can be brutal when it comes to things that they use daily that they have invested in and it works, take that functionality away and they will often turn their backs on you. In most cases it does not matter if it was a 3rd party or whatever, they are looking at the owner of the software because it was that upgrade that took the functionality away, now the blame (wrong word "blame" but I hope you get it) is not the developer but just aging technology, but user will not see that all they know is Serviio upgrade broke it. I get it you have to move forward in development or get left behind, and I get that, and sometimes you need to cut the cord on features that are rather outdated, got it. All I was asking was for communication, even now that you know that the ServiiGO app was affected have you communicated that to users, or is it only until they login to the forum and then get the disappointment. It is that disappointment that generally leaves a disdain taste in your mouth. Look bottom line, yes I am frustrated, yes I would have liked some kind of communication, but this is the real world, it is what it is. I love Serviio, will continue to use it, that has not changed, I bought "1" 2.x PRO Version, I still have "2" 1.x PRO versions, I have a second internal server that is running 1.10.1, I just make the internal 2.x and my external will go back to 1.10.1. I get what you are saying and thank you for listening, I just do not want Serviio to go away because of misunderstandings with users, as I stated user can be brutal.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

I have to add this, I love the ability to assign users, and I am finding out that the MediaBroswer is not half bad, it does not have all of the features that ServiiGo offered through MX Player Pro, but it still allows for me to steam remotely and I have to add that it is more fluid, less shuttering, so a little frustration for better feature and performance, the frustration is beginning to fade.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

Well, my phone updated the app. When I first opened it, it showed my servers, still displaying version 1.10.1. When I clicked on each, they both refreshed to show version 2.0. However, I couldn't open either server. When I closed and reopened the app, it had selected Video but I just get "Failed to load content". When I select Browse, nothing is displayed. Tried a search but nothing returned. Rebooted the phone with no change.

It should have shown a message to say that it needed a username entering. Now that it's on the video view it's just trying to reconnect though, I'll fix that to kick you back out to the login screen and then bring up the server settings.

For now go to menu - logout and then edit the server to have a username

Thanks Will. That did it. Incredible how good 4K HDR looks on such a small screen. I use VLC as my player, and works fantastic.
