Yes it works over the internet (tested a few days ago while visiting family). You browse your server as normal and then send the video url + metadata to the Chromecast, which then makes the connection to Serviio, so you can even turn your phone off without affecting playback.

Excellent news, this makes ServiioGo with Serviio a far better solution than Plex. Plex transcodes more than it needs too so needs a faster cpu . Plex could be so good but imo they get the hard bits right but easy stuff wrong still.

Its not quite ready yet, mainly because I've just not had the time needed to work on it properly. I'm going to try to do a limited beta at the weekend to active forum users, and then a full beta the weekend after.

Will,

Looking forward to the chromecast testing. Easter weekend ill be able to do testing remotely from my parents house if you have the beta out by then. Should be able to help with any bugs from there.

Thanks,

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

I've just uploaded a new beta to Google Play, no Chromecast support yet due to lack of time, but there are a number of other changes that had to be made for it which need testing (Google Play Services in particular) as well as lots of bug fixes from Beta 1 that I had already done. As a bonus for those of you that use SeriesGuide to manage your TV shows, you can now quickly navigate back between the two apps, very useful for marking something as viewed, or finding what to watch next and then opening it in ServiiGo. Going from ServiiGo -> SeriesGuide requires the donate version, as I have to look up the show's tvdb id.

  Code:
==== 4.0 Beta 2 ====
*Requires Android 2.3.3+ and Google Play Services (GPS) 4.3+
*Added integration with SeriesGuide (requires SeriesGuide 13 and Android 3.0+)
**Act as a SeriesGuide extension to link from SeriesGuide's episode view to ServiiGo
**Added an action item to view an episodes/series in SeriesGuide from ServiiGo (Donate version only)
*New inline mini player for controlling the Music Player
*Not having an available connection no longer stops data being loaded from the response cache
*Failing to download the current track in the Music Player no longer shuts down the Music Player
*Improved image loading in the Image Viewer
*Fixed a load of minor bugs
*Replaced standalone AdMob SDK with AdMob from GPS
*Replaced standalone Analytics SDK with Analytics from GPS
*Added ButterKnife
*Added Otto

And a small update for the production stream:

  Code:
==== 3.3.2 ====
*Fixed crash when trying to play a video on some Samsung devices running Android 4.3
*Various minor bug fixes

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

Hi,

Thanks for the update, everything works fine for me.

Small request: I would like an option to close the music player in the notification center. Just a small X on the top right or so. Otherwise the only possibility to close it I found was to tip on the music bar at the bottom of the app and then under settings, close it.

I also tried switching off wlan while watching a video (to simulate me leaving wlan range), then my phone went to 3G but the video stopped. If this is just not possible that the app continues loading via 3G while steaming the video it´s not a big deal. Just wanted to test and let you know :)

I've added a ticket on bitbucket for that.

No unfortunately its not possible, the media library releases everything if the connection is interrupted.

I don't know if I just haven't noticed before or its due to the latest update, but in the thumbnail view, the thumbnails seem to be lower quality? Ie I click on movies and get the front cover thumbnail, seems to be more blurry than usual

Nothing should have changed in Beta 2. Is it only for movies, for all videos, or for everything, and is it only in the list of items, or also in the details view?

You could try clearing the image caches, restarting the app, view the video details, and then checking the images under /sdcard/ServiiGo/ThumbnailCache. They should be upto 320x320.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

Hi All, I've just released 4.0 Beta 3 to Google Play. This one is mostly internal fixes and work for Serviio 1.5.

  Code:
==== 4.0 Beta 3 ====
*Improved intial connection speed by re-using authentication tokens on Serviio 1.4.1+ (#77)
*Preperations for Serviio 1.5
*Fixed current track title not updating in the Music Player
*Fixed display of artist and albums that contain '-'
*Fixed lots of minor issues
*Updated Google Play Services to 4.4
*Updated Picasso to 2.3
*Updated ButterKnfire to 5.1
*Updated PhotoView to 1.2.3

4.0 is already a massive update, and I'm not going to have time to get Chromecast support nicely polished for a while now, so I'm going to release 4.0 soonish, and then work on Chromecast support for the next version.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

I've just uploaded 4.0 to Google Play, and as it has been going for so long I had kind of forgotten how much has changed! Also thanks again to all of the testers!

So here is a quick summary

  Code:
==== 4.0 (Summary) ====
*Requires Android 2.3.3+
*Improved performance, reconnects faster, caches more data, and resumes at the last used folder
*Improved UI, updated App icon, themes tweaks, new action icons
*Improved loading and error screens
*New inline mini player for controlling the Music Player
*Improved Image Viewer
*Added integration with SeriesGuide
*Improved image loading
*Experimental Google TV support
*Uses AppCompat on legacy devices
*Lots of bug fixes and improvements

And for those who are interested, a more complete (although not absolute) changelog.

  Code:
==== 4.0 ====
*Requires Android 2.3.3+
*Improved resume support by automatically re-connecting and browsing to the last used folder
*Improved intial connection speed by re-using authentication tokens on Serviio 1.4.1+ (#77)
*Updated App icon and Themes
*Improved loading and error screens
*Updated action icons including XXHDPI assets
*Experimental Google TV support
*New inline mini player for controlling the Music Player
*Share images from the Image Viewer
*Show low res thumbnails during load in the Image Viewer  (#85)
*Added integration with SeriesGuide (requires SeriesGuide 13 and Android 3.0+)
**Act as a SeriesGuide extension to link from SeriesGuide's episode view to ServiiGo
**Added an action item to view an episodes/series in SeriesGuide from ServiiGo (Donate version only)
*Not having an available connection no longer stops data being loaded from the response cache
*Failing to download the current track in the Music Player no longer shuts down the Music Player
*Changed image loading implementation to use Picasso
*Improved error messages for network related issues
*Force the screen to stay on in the Video Player
*Added support for playing back non-mp3 files natively (requires profile change to be activated)
*Improved performance of Music Player widget and notification updates
*Nicer large style Music Player widget (now requires Android 3.0+)
*Fixed the Music Player widgets controls on Android 4.4+
*Changed the ActionBar implementation for legacy devices from ActionBarSherlock to AppCompat
*Added a Changelog on startup for beta testers (#75)
*Fixed display of artist and albums that contain '-'
*Various minor bug fixes and improvements
*Added Google Play Services 4.4
*Replaced standalone AdMob SDK with AdMob from GPS
*Replaced standalone Analytics SDK with Analytics from GPS
*Added ButterKnife
*Added Otto
*Added Picasso
*Updated PhotoView

Compared to the last beta, there are a few minor bugfixes, and I've also removed the requirement for Google Play Services, so although I do not officially support it, you should be able to sideload the app on non-google devices.

Re: ServiiGo (Android 3G/4G/Wifi Playback App)

How do you play an image slideshow? The changelog talks about there being an image slideshow feature but all I can find is the image viewer. You can manually swipe from one image to the next but there does not appear to be an automatic slideshow option. Am I missing something? There is no 'play' button, the only menu option is 'set as wallpaper' and the settings menu does not have any 'slideshow delay: ## seconds' kind of entry.

Thanks.

The slideshow feature hasn't actually been implemented yet. Some of the old changelogs mentioned an image slideshow as the viewer itself which was confusing which is why anything recent just talks about an image viewer.

There isn't really a reason that it cannot been done, there just hasn't been any interest from users, but I'll bump it up the priority list as its about time I got round to doing it.
