Chromecast support is disabled by default because I'm currently using an old and unsupported version of the media player library that and as such it may break at any point. I'm not using the official one because it does not work well unless you fully re-encode the video during the transcoding process. There is an open bug which Google have accepted, but no ETA on a fix.

Please email me at the support address/pm me with your email address and I will give you the details on how to enable it, with the warning that it may break at any point.

Sorry that was meant to post above based on last update. I thought you were saying it's probably broken and my experience is it no longer works. So I can send to the CC device and it initiates, serviio on tv, see the tv program meta data I.e screenshot. However it sticks on that screen with play symbol spinning but never starts.

I had no reason to believe it would currently be broken, just that there is no guarantee it won't in the future.

Have you checked your Serviio log for an error?

I'm away this weekend so won't be able to test until Monday evening.

Testing 1.5 Presentation settings. I noticed that if I disable an entire "branch" say "Audio" It is still listed in the ServiiGo browser. This is not consistent with the web-based MediaBrowser.

Not sure if this is the Thread where you want this info relayed.

This is how it has always worked and is by design. Doing so simplifies things and won't affect most users, and as it does not affect the number of clicks/action the user must perform to reach content I felt the benifits were worth it.

Will or anyone else with Amazon Fire Stick.

Does anyone know if the Amazon Fire stick works with ServiiGo?

Been thinking of getting one but wanted to make sure it works with it.

Thank you,

Jim

Not sure, I belive it is just a lower powered Fire TV which can run APKs (rather than Chromecast which is very different), so it could work, but again the UI won't be optimised.

Just picked up a chromecast and would love to use serviigo with it. I understand it's not perfect, but I'm ok with that :-).

Here are the details for how to activate Chromecast support. Unfutunately the only way to get everything working with newer versions of MPL on Chromecast is to force transcoding to ensure it stays below a certain bitrate. This change has been made for 1.5 so once it comes out I will be updating the client and receiver app to require Serviio 1.5. This means that if you have a low powered server that works now it may not be fast enough to stream HD content once full transcoding is activated. (E.g. my Intel D525 is not fast enough :()

Also remember that as an experimental feature, that this may break, be removed, or turned into a paid feature at anytime without notice.

    Goto Menu->About
    Tap 5 times on the ServiiGo logo
    In the developer mode dialog, type the word "Cast" (without the quotes), and press enter on your keyboard
    The app will restart
    Goto Menu->About
    Scroll down, and you should see 'CastCompanionLibrary-Android' in the list of libraries
    You should now see the cast icon once connected to a server when a Chromecast is availble

Will, does what you say about forcing transcoding apply to every file, or just when casting?

Sorry if that wasn't clear, this is a change to the Chromecast profile so it impacts casting non h264 mp4 files to a Chromecast. Normal playback is not affected (and casting to more powerful devices such as Android TV also won't be affected once I work out how to tell the difference).

I've just uploaded a new update which adds support for the new browsing categories that have been added in the latest Serviio beta. As it also contains library changes i've just uploaded it to the beta channel, and if all goes well I will promote it to the production channel in a few days time.

  Code:
==== 4.4 ====
*Added full support for Serviio 1.5
*Various minor bug fixes and improvements
*Updated libraries and build tools
