does anyone else own a phillips 49PFL4909/F7? I just got a second hand one for my granddaughters room and it sees serviio but every folder shows no playable files? in serviio console it says phillips 2010- will this tv play anything or is it too old. I have 2 Samsung tvs and roku boxes that work. maybe maybe the tv is just a dead white elephant

I looked up a manual online, and it doesn't provide much detail about media support over DLNA. It only lists:
Playable codec : MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4
Maximum size of a video : 1920 x 1080
Audio type : AC3, MPEG1 audio layer 3 (MP3),
MPEG1 audio layer 2, LPCM

It doesn't specify which containers are supported, but my guess would be MP4 and MPG. Audio MP3 files should also play. So the question is, what do you have in the way of media? Are they all in MKV containers, or something different? If your videos use the H.264/AVC codec, it looks like it might not play them.

I just looked at the Philips 2010- profile, and it does very little video transcoding. That is likely the issue. It will only transcode video in the OGG container, width greater than 1920 (so 4K material), or media in any container with DTS audio. Most likely you'll need a customized profile for that TV. But first we need to know what your media contains to know how to proceed.

There is a link in my signature that explains how to identify the contents of your media. Look it over and then examine some of your media so we can get a baseline profile going for you. My guess is it won't take to much tweaking to get it working.

not at home right now but most are mkv, mp4 , h.264 or h.265 I know some of the mkv are dts but not alot

Yeah, it sounds like many/most/all of your files might be slipping by the profile. Once we identify them for certain we can move forward.

so i looked again and yes they are all .mp4 or .mkv very few are.avi but it wont play anything. is there another profile to try just to see if its possible to get it to work?

The DirecTV profile is reported to transcode everything, so you might try that one. I suspect that profile will be overkill, so I'd still like to know exactly what's inside your video containers. The TV for certain doesn't support MKV or AVI, but I'm curious why the MP4 files don't appear.

Ok, the video that you provided data for is using H.265 in the MP4 container. It's not being transcoded by the Philips profile because it is too old and doesn't have a matches line for H.265. It assumes that any MP4 will have AVC/H.264 video. I looked at the DTV profile, and I see it's using MP2 as the audio output, so perhaps your TV doesn't like that codec.

I just looked at the Philips 2009 profile, and it might work for you. It matches all MP4 files and transcodes the video to MPEG2 and the audio to AC3, both of which your TV supports. So try that profile and see what you get.

ok thanks. not home but remotely changed to the 2009 so I will have my wife try when she gets home for lunch if that did the trick. will let you know.

same thing, its like it doesn't even try to play the files instantly I get that network error ? on my Samsung I have had a few that it will try to play and I get not supported but that's not often . on this phillips its like it doesn't even try

That is puzzling. I don't know if a detailed log would provide any insight, but it might. It will at least show for certain how it's attempting to play the file.

so i havent had time to do the log thing but hate wifi so i ran a ethernet cable to it , didnt do anything different and really didnt expect it to. then i went to the darkside for experimental purposes only and installed plex. dont like it only use serviio but even that i get the same error. wtf. i am going to try tonight some random files on a usb drive and see if it plays from that if its even capable of that but other than that i am lost. phones, boxes and my tvs all play serviio fine. i even have a old sony box that doesnt do anything but serviio. i will try over the weekend to get a log file.

Well, that log is extremely short (only the very beginning of the start up), but I do see an interesting item. There are several lines that state either "unknown video codec" or "unknown video file type". The file types were MP4 and MKV, and the video codecs were AVI or MP4. If those files can be played by some other player, such as VLC, then those are puzzling entries. Of course, the log only shows 5 files. I don't know how many are in your library, but I'm sure you have more than that.

If Plex is returning the same errors, then it's something with the media files. Sometimes media files get a glitch in their container, and they can be re-muxed and work fine. There are several ways to do that, but all require some work and time. You can use tsMuxeR to do it quickly, but it only outputs TS and M2TS containers, and I have no idea if your TV supports that. Since it doesn't do anything to the original files, you could try it with a few. It only takes a couple of minutes per file, since it's not converting anything. You can download it here: https://www.videohelp.com/software/tsMuxeR. Hopefully it will support the files you have. Otherwise you could use Handbrake to convert them all to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio, but it takes far longer per file.

i actually uninstalled and then reinstalled serviio in case something was corrupt and did a new log file. converting all my files isnt a option as its a 3tb drive with over 4000 files before i do that maybe a firestick or chromecast would decode?
before i uninstalled plex i tried a lot of files but what was strange is that one low quality music video did. it wont in serviio? but thats one only. maybe i need just to give up cant upload the file it says its too large

It's certainly possible that a new Fire TV, Roku, or Chromecast might play those videos fine. I can almost guarantee that an Nvidia Shield would, as it can play almost anything. I am extremely puzzled why we haven't been able to get Serviio to figure out a way to transcode them. I know it's not the newest TV, and has an very limited codec support, but I would have thought that it would play at least some of your media. Certainly none that has H.265 video, as your TV pre-dates that codec.

For your H.265 video, every 4K Roku player should be able to handle them fine. It also supports MKV and MP4 containers without an issue. AVI and MPG containers need transmuxing only, as long as the codecs within are supported. I suspect that the Fire TV would be almost identical.

so i found the owners manual for the tv. see attached. stil dont understand why it wont play anything . doesnt serviio trancode if the file isnt compatable with the tv?

Serviio will transcode, yes. But it requires an accurate profile to know what to transcode. For whatever reason, we can't seem to make one that works correctly.

That section of the manual refers to playback via USB. Many manufacturers have different media support between USB and DLNA. Doesn't make sense, but they do it. That's my guess with Philips.

I had a Philips TV back in the '90s that was nothing but trouble. I swore off that brand ever since, so I have nothing here to help develop a profile. You've seen the difficulty in trying to develop a profile for a device that isn't available to the person developing it.
