Folder level security

I did a quick search and didn't see this anywhere. True folder level security would be VERY helpful, meaning access to a shared folder isn't restricted or granted by a combination of username, device/client and folder, but strictly by a username/password (or user) for that folder. Today it appears folder access is generally allowed to everyone, and the only way to restrict access is to assign a client a username that "isn't" on the list to access a folder, hence restricting it.

The ability to secure a folder, by default, from everyone, and then "explicitly" allow access only from a username/password combination would be great. The username/client/folder combination isnt ideal, as a clients IP address could change, and as such under the current security model, would then allow access to a shared folder it was previously restricted from, as a username would no longer be associated with that client, since it has a new IP.

Re: Folder level security

DLNA does not support username/password. The user level functionality that the Serviio developer added beginning with version 2.0 is about all that can be done. Many players have no means of entering authentication, which is likely why it's not supported. Your workaround for changing IP addresses is to either use static IPs or to set an IP reservation for the desired device(s) in the device that provides your network DHCP functionality.
