Servio is great no doubts about that, if i may suggest to have an option to stop checking the online sources live streams during the start up of the server, it takes long time and can get you band if you have more than 10 streams on a site and servio has to check each live stream, thank you for the great media server.

But then they would not be available to you to stream..?

If you don't need them always on, just disable them in the console (right-click), and they won't be checked.

I don't quite understand why they would not be available if they were not checked at startup or a regular intervals, but then I don't know any of the inner workings of Serviio.
Another take is for streams that are only available at specific times but with the same URL each time, most likely it will not be shown at the time the stream is activated and I'm left trying frantically to get Serviio to populate the library.

Servio during start up connects to each live stream and checks if it is live or not, if the stream is not live you dont see it in the list, checking each live stream in library if it is live or not takes long time specially if you have a lot, all i am asking is it lists the available without checking if it is working or not, when you play the live stream it can check it, i dont think in order for the stream to be listed it must be checked if it is working or not, i may be wrong, but what i am asking will save a lot of time.

When Serviio starts up it knows nothing about online sources except what is in the console.
Live streams will be used as is and will only be checked to get and cache their attributes if they were not used previously.
RSS/Atom and Web Resources plugins must be run in order to get the stream urls and build the menus of the streams they contain, and these streams will only be checked to get and cache their attributes if they were not used previously.
Without those executions, Serviio has nothing to display.

^ this

Serviio doesn't store any online content metadata into its database, only into temporary memory storage, which is cleaned when you stop the service. So on startup it has to go and check the streams again.
