Seeking in mkv container

Hi,

your App is the only useable solution for streaming from mac to samsung tv's, thanks for that!
I have found that while streaming h264 with ac3 in a mp4 container will let me seek forward it won't work with a mkv container.
Maybe you could look into that for your next update.

Re: Seeking in mkv container

Hi, I'm not sure it is a Serviio limitation. I believe it is samsung firmware's. I use a PC, I streamed from the software provided by Samsung (PC SHARE MANAGER) and Serviio. Both behave the same.

I'm ready to do some tests however. Any good soft to change MKV to MP4 container quickly?

Re: Seeking in mkv container

The easiest thing that works on a Mac and provides video passthrough is opening the file in quicktime pro 7 and saving it as an .mp4 file.
I also tried MKVTools which also works very good in most cases, but unfortunately can not reencode the audio stream to a format that the tv supports.
MKVTools uses serveral command line tools that you could use to unpack the .mkv, convert the audio yourself and repack to .mp4.
I did not have time to look into that yet.
If you have a .mkv with working audio already I can recommend both MKVTools and Quicktime Pro.

If you are on a PC there are much better tools for this job.
Use mkvtoolnix http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/win32/pre/ to unpack the .mkv
and mp4box http://www.videohelp.com/tools/mp4box to repack as mp4.
See this thread for a few good tips on doing it http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=103970
