MKV Internal subtutles sypport

MKV video files works fine, but f imbedded subtitles is not shown. It is supported by VLC viewer, but not by SERVIIO. Maybe you have a trial version that supports it?

Re: MKV Internal subtutles sypport

VLC is an extremely capable media viewer, and is far better than any built-in TV app I've ever used. As DenyAll mentioned, it's up to your display to show subtitles. Be aware that VOBSUB and PGS subtitles (commonly found on DVDs and Blu Rays) are image based, and I know of no TV that supports them both. Most only support text based captions.

I have many MKV files with PGS or VOBSUB captions, and they don't display either through a TV app or a Roku player. Most Blu Ray players will display VOBSUB captions from an MKV file, but not PGS. However, the same video with PGS captions in an M2TS file will display the captions. I believe it is because M2TS is the native container for a Blu Ray video.

Bottom line, it's up to your display device to view the captions. The free version of Serviio has the same caption ability as Pro, so there's no other version that would make any difference. Of course, you could try enabling Burned-in Subtitles and have Serviio transcode them into the video stream.

Re: MKV Internal subtutles sypport

You just need to enable extraction of embedded subtitles in the console.
