Onscreen keyboard

Just getting started with my evaluation but very well done indeed.

I expect I would be using MediaBrowser as my primary interface and a "virtual" on "onscreen" mouse operated keyboard would be very helpful.

I'm not sure I'm calling it by the correct name but when the search box is clicked a keyboard appears on the screen, the mouse pointer is sent to the desired letter and a left click enters that letter in the search box. A "done" box indicates input has concluded and the search feature can be executed.

Have no idea of the complexity of such a feature but I have it in other applications where a keyboard might not always be present and this feature is very handy.

Thanks.

MediaBrowser is typically used on a computer that has a keyboard and mouse. What sort of device are you considering for this, a tablet of some sort? I would think a tablet would most likely have an app that could access Serviio, and would have its own native virtual keyboard. I just opened MediaBrowser on my iPad, and it popped up the Apple virtual keyboard anywhere I needed to enter text.

Not saying your idea doesn't have value. I'm simply trying to understand the scenario where you'd need it. :)

I have multiple HTPCs running Windows which runs Windows Media Center. Well, we know where that's going.

When I watch I'm usually sitting on the couch or laying in bed and using a mouse as my only input device.

I rarely use a keyboard but when I do it's a wired USB keyboard and I use that for routine Windows housekeeping or for changing a setting that just can't be done any other way.

I've tried wireless keyboards but unless I'm careful not to leave them on the bed the dog tends to try and watch his favorite content......or I go to sleep and roll over on them.

OK, I'm following you now. I still run WMC on a Windows 7 PC, mainly for recording OTA. I've never bothered using WMC for actual media playback, although I did in the past as it's the only device with a Blu Ray player on that TV. Once I moved to Serviio, I either use the Smart functions of that TV (which aren't all that great, it's a pretty old TV) or now I have a Roku Ultra connected to it.

I think there's a built-in onscreen keyboard function in Windows 7, although I'm not certain how to bring it up. Just tried it, and it's under Control panel, Ease of use. You could start it an leave it minimized until you need it.

Still, might not be a bad addition to MediaBrowser. Zip will have to say how difficult it might be to add it.

Ah, control panel/ease of use. Never knew that. But then what I don't know is pretty scary! Thanks a million.
