Enable the user to choose either or more of the obvious online metadata sources, and the preference order.

Currently, there's a choice of TMDb+TvDb or neither.

The TVDb is a good and wellkept database, while TMDb is a joke.

Why force the user to use both?

It's much better to allow the choices of theTVDdb or not, TMDb or not, and any other online db you may care to add, independently of each other.

A preferred order may be useful, but at least allow the dbs to be chosen independently.

Currently, all the movies I have list as Doctor Zjivago..
Please give me a method of NOT having to use TMDb just because I want to use theTVDb!

An even better possibility might be selecting metadata sources per directory tree, or a stencil approach.

can you give an example file name(s0 that won't find a match?

I'm trying to keep Serviio as simple as possible so a pre-folder metadata config is a no-go. There is an open ticket to allow multiple sources, so you might utilize the online sources as well as .nfo XBMC metadata files at the same time for different files.

I am somewhat disappointed in your reaction: you're reading too much into my ramblings. What I REALLY think is necessary is to enable the user to NOT use one particular online resource, while still using the other one.

I e me not having to use TMDb even if I use theTVDB.

Give me that and I shall be very happy and crawl back under my cosy little rock.

I don't understand what can be so difficult about separating theTVDB from TMDB?

It might not be too difficult, but I decided to deliver this online metadata functionality for all the content, as a package - which I think most users appreciate rather than them having to configure more stuff.

Still you have MyMovies, and swisscenter, and xbmc...

And for configuration complexity: plugins.

Mind you, I think all of the above are good things, though a mechanism for combining them neatly is missing.

I don't see people complaining about configuring online feeds, and I do believe they're smart enough to handle the extra complexity of separate and combinable online metadata feeds.

You wanted an example of TMDb silliness: here's a file/directory tree that comes up as a long list of Doctor Zhivago copies:

I should add that I have a fair catalog of movies, (legally obtained, actually!) and they either don't show up at all or as Doctor Zhivago (or another one of a very short list of japanese, korean or UK/US movies). Most of my movies are swedish, and they just ain't there in TMDb, because swedes don't bother with that very local anglosaxon DB... :-)

Sorry for that slur.
But TMDb is not very universal, and not very complete.

Why not add some movies to the db then?
The DVD copy obviously wont work, you would have to join the vob files into a single mpeg and then name properly.

That seems to indicate a really useless database or some error in the search.

Adding movies to the db: no, not willingly any more.
I would be the only one adding swedish movies, and it would never get to a useful state.
I might try it again, but it is not a solution to the actual problem, just a Sysyfos style impossibility. This from attempting to help out once or twice.
theTVDB is a much nicer environment with a mostly sympathetic crew. Except when it comes to one guy's idea of how to determine "correct".... :-)

But that only concerns really old British shows of truly Iconic status. And how many of those can there be?? :-)

Probably because video_ts returns no results but Disc 1 (parent folder) returns Zhivago quite high in the result list.
