i think that an option allowing to hide empty directory if there is no playable media in it would be usefull.
for exemple, "myStuff/holliday 1" folder contain only photos, and "myStuff/holliday 2" folder contains video and photos.
when i browse videos on my tv, i would like to see "myStuff/holliday 2" but not "myStuff/holliday 1" (because there's no videos in this folder).
when i browse images on my tv, i would like to see "myStuff/holliday 1" and "myStuff/holliday 2" because they both contain photos.

I think I was looking into this earlier and found it quite difficult to do, it would also slow down browsing in general.

I also strongly need this feature.
I have a parent folder with several child folders with both pictures and videos inside.
Some folders contains only pictures.
When I am browsing videos in this folder tree I don't want to see folders not containing videos.
I can't share folders separately because I often update and add new child folders and I don't want to update shares each time.
Just for yor info, twonky server works like this, hiding empty folders, and browsing doesnt't seem slow.

share the child folders and not just the parent folder then.

Twonky implements it its way, serviio different way. In the way serviio works it'd make browsing slower.

Yes - this I really would appreciate as well. I think I tried about 3 other DLNA servers which all hides folders with children=0.
I think this is one of the best advantages with DLNA, i.e. possibility to browse only folders with video etc.
So please consider this again.

I would also like to request support for this feature please.
I have a massive structure for all my photos with the occasional video files included.
When I look at the structure on my PC using Picasa I can just view the photos and videos together so no issue.
When I use Serviio and say the directories have both photos and videos it is really hard to find the videos as most of the directories are empty.
Having an option on Serviio to not show any empty directories would solve the problem.

I too would like this feature for the video Folder view, if it can be done without a performance hit, please.
For example, if I add my entire iTunes music folder and there are a small number of music videos...
Thanks.
