Ignore attributes

My humble request. Please add an option to ignore file attributes(names especially) and only present videos with filename. Sorry dont mean to be ungrateful but the constant stripping of names having to be done manually to present videos to me on tv as I want it seems to be a ridiculous exercise for my use case of watch and delete. Otherwise a perfect product.

Re: Ignore attributes

You can view any media solely by the file name when you use the Folder view. You can also disable metadata retrieval, and then you only see the file name from any view.

Re: Ignore attributes

I use last added predominantly. Where do I turn metadata off? Only option I see is the "Generate thumbnails for local videos" which is ticked for image and videos. Assume that only generates a thumbnail

ok I see "Use original title" option. Is that it?

Re: Ignore attributes

Look at the Serviio console, under the Metadata tab. There's a box labeled Descriptive metadata, and within that box you probably see some text that says Online metadata sources. That's a dropdown box, although it doesn't look like it. Just click it and select No descriptive metadata. You can also turn metadata retrieval off on a specific folder. Go to your Library tab, then Shared folders. Depending on your file locations, you might only have a single location here. I have nine myself, with media spread over four different hard drives. For the shared folder you wish to turn metadata off, click Edit on the desired folder. In the panel that appears, there's a checkbox labeled Retrieve descriptive metadata. Uncheck that box and that specific folder will only show the raw file name.

I've done that for a folder that has a variety of test videos of different codecs, containers, bitrates and resolutions. Since there's no online metadata available for those, Serviio would retrieve all sorts of strange titles for them, so it made sense to just turn retrieval off.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. The "No descriptive metadata" was already that inn the drop down in the Metadata tab
I also have 9 folders shared. One where I drop videos and the rest are series I watch often. The series folders had "Retrieve descriptive metadata" ticked and but they dont get any new videos, I noticed however had it ticked.
The one folder with frequent drops was unticked so why is it showing me the attribute filename as opposed to what I actually name it? Sorry scratching my head here?

thanks

Re: Ignore attributes

All I can say is when I view the folder with my test videos, which is the only one that I have metadata disabled, all I see is the file name, which does includes the file type (.mkv, .mp4, .ts, etc.). There's no way to lose the file suffix, as that's part of the name. But other than that, I see the complete file name, not anything pulled from some other source.

I don't think that's the issue. Take a look here. Left(Industry 2x07) is what I expect but I get the attribute name on the right in serviio(RARBG - Industry.S02E07.WEBRip.x264-ION10).

Re: Ignore attributes

I just checked some of my test videos, and they either have nothing in that field or it matches the file name, so that explains why I only see the actual file name. I would have thought that Serviio would ignore that metadata if the settings were all turned off. I don't have any further ideas about it.

Re: Ignore attributes

Yup. different file types requires different ways of stripping this att4ribute out off the files. Annoying as hell.

I used to get stuff manually but with things like Sonarr etc file named perfectly and placed into the share folder automatically but Serviio ignores the actual file name and presents them with attribute names.

Would really appreciate it if this was ignored.
thanks

So not possible or too difficult to implement?

Re: Ignore attributes

Only the developer can say if it's possible and/or practical. I would think it's doable, but I have no experience in Java programming so no idea what's possible.
