External hard drive

I have my videos on an external hard drive, because my main one is too small, but I can't select this hard drive to see the videos on my TV, while it was possible before... What should I TO DO?

Re: External hard drive

What operating system are you using? Not being able to access external drives is usually a permissions issue. Remember that Serviio is not running under your personal user account. It is running on a system account that might not have permission to access the drive.

Hello
I'm on mac os ventura. Previously this wasn't a problem, but now I only have access to my internal hard drive which is too small for the videos, hence storing the videos on the external hard drive

Re: External hard drive

OK. MacOS is based on Linux, so I'm still fairly confident that it's a permissions issue. However, I don't know enough about Linux (and nothing about MacOS) to offer the steps to take. But search online for MacOS file permissions and you can probably find the steps necessary.

Re: External hard drive

Thanks, I found file sharing and allowed external hard drive, but when I want to select after clicking library, add, browse volumes, only internal hard drive appears

Re: External hard drive

I don't think file sharing is what you're looking for. That probably makes the drive available to someone else on your network. Permissions should be something different. Again, I'm not Linux or MacOS savvy by a long shot, so just throwing out ideas.

Re: External hard drive

The fix is pretty easy, I had the same issue a few years back with another version. The poster who said it has to do with permissions is correct.. go to System Settings > Privacy and Security > Full Disc Access, Make sure Java is there and is turned on, make sure you have added and granted full disc access to Serviio, you may require a restart, and you have to wait a bit for the system to build a net work tree, but it seems to have done the trick for me.

Re: External hard drive

Check your Java permissions. That has been the hold up for many people trying to access external drives. Sometimes Java pushes out an update the changes permissions, which would explain something working previously but suddenly no longer works.
