DLNA BD Player - suggest

Hi all,

after several months of struggling with my Sony S370, remuxing, recoding, testing, changing profiles, re-testing and swearing, I think it's time to reconsider my choice.

Does anybody own a standalone BD-Player which is capable of playing chaptered, subtitled (switchable), multi-audio (switchable) MPEG2 files from a Serviio server? I think the first three features, especially those soft subs, mean it has to be MKV.

The new player (xmas is coming up...) should have the follwoing features:

- nice on-screen menu (I had a Samsung C5500 first, and alyways expected Ronald McDonald to pop up in its flashy navigation, the Sony is very tidy here)
- don't need WLAN
- SACD compatibility would be nice, but I do own just 2 SACDs so far and can well live without them
- no annoying noise while playing discs (the Sony keeps whistling like granny's old kettle)
- DLNA playback of MKV (MPEG2 and HD codecs, multi subs, multi-audio), TS (MPEG2, multi-audio), and all the usual suspects which are DLNA-compliant by definition.

Any hints highly appreciated,
Low

Does anybody own a Philips BDP5100?

It's supposed to be next to perfect for local mkv playback, but I couldn't find any info on its DLNA capabilites.

Illico,

Thanks for the hints! I'm getting more and more used to reading French. ;-)

I think I may give the PHILIPS BDP3100 a try, although I couldn't find any screenshots of how the player's GUI looks like. There aren't too many reports on the player's DLNA capabilities around, so I'll have to try it myself.

CU,

Re: DLNA BD Player - suggest

For a change, I'd very much like to cut out the "cool" part of having to pamper a new device into doing what it's supposed to do in weeks of testing and changing profiles, just by buying a player that does play all my stuff right from the beginning.

Yes, I do dream of things at night, too...

Re: DLNA BD Player - suggest

Thanks Illico,

I had considered the BDP5100 anyway, but gave the incorrect number here, sorry. I used your link to make further comparisons and found (with my now fluent French) that the 5100 doesn't natively support HD Audio formats. Sorry, Philips, hi again Sony...

Have a nice one,
Low
