Issue with avi streaming to Sony BDP-S570

I'm sure there's an answer for this up here already but I can't seem to find it. I'm trying to stream avi files to my BDP-S570 but none show up in the library unless I rename them to mp4. Once I rename them everything works great. I'm guessing there's something simple i'm missing.

Thanks.

Please provide "ffmpeg -i" result of your avi file. (see my signature).

Serviio doesn't care about extensions (for file type scanning), so this makes no sense :?

Not sure if this means anything but I can play the avi files on an xbox 360 streaming from Windows Media Player.

also the Sony sees the Windows library but shows no files as well. it's odd.

it's possible that you have US or Canadian version of the player, check the forum for a proper profile

I'm having a similar issue (with my Sony Network Media Player SMP-N100). I can see the folders but cannot view anything inside it. It says "No playable files". I'm in US. Please let me know how do I change the profile so that I would be able to view the media files. Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for your quick response. Had couple of very dum questions. I can see the file called "profiles" in the "config" folder. I'm assuming I need to change this. Should I replace the entire code in this file with the US version of the profile you sent the link to ?? Can I open it up in MS Word, do the "replace" and then save it ?

No, open it in a simple text editor (like notepad, definitely not MS Word ;-) ), replace the current Sony DB profile or add the US one at the end (but make sure that ID attribute includes unique value). Then save and restart Serviio service (or restart the PC).

More info here: http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=16

I installed Serviio and got everything up and running, updated the profiles.xml file with the latest US and EU profiles but I still cannot see AVI files from my Sony BDP-S570. I still get the messages about no files found. Am I missing something? I have restarted the service and switched profiles multiple times. Any help you can provide is much appreciated. This is pretty aggravating *Sony's fault) because everything was working fine until today. It just started acting up for no reason.

Thanks in advance!

create a topic in Sony's section and post a detailed log there

Just wanted to say a big Thanks for Serviio - Installed the latest version which already has the profiles - started the console - appeared on my BD player an hey presto it can suddenly see and play avi files. Very pleased!

I have a Sony BDP-BX57 Bluray player and was having a similar issue. I used to just re encode the files with whatever encoder I could find and they worked. Tried renaming the file extension to MP4 like another poster suggested and now my file plays fine. I agree that it shouldn't matter as the only change was the extension but it does play now.

The ffmpeg-i of a working file follows:

Memphis Beat 7
libavutil 50.15. 1 / 50.15. 1
libavcodec 52.72. 2 / 52.72. 2
libavformat 52.64. 2 / 52.64. 2
libavdevice 52. 2. 0 / 52. 2. 0
libavfilter 1.19. 0 / 1.19. 0
libswscale 0.11. 0 / 0.11. 0
libpostproc 51. 2. 0 / 51. 2. 0

BTW I did not crop this, this really is all it says at the bottom and it worked fine.

The ffmpeg-i of the non working file is:

Memphis Beat 8
libavutil 50.15. 1 / 50.15. 1
libavcodec 52.72. 2 / 52.72. 2
libavformat 52.64. 2 / 52.64. 2
libavdevice 52. 2. 0 / 52. 2. 0
libavfilter 1.19. 0 / 1.19. 0
libswscale 0.11. 0 / 0.11. 0
libpostproc 51. 2. 0 / 51. 2. 0
Input #0, avi, from 'Memphis.Beat.S02E08.Identity.Crisis.HDTV.XviD-FQM.avi':

Can't find a difference myself except the obvious extra stream info but again the first file played just fine without it!

And again all I had to do was change the file extension to MP4 to make the second file play.

Weird Huh? ;)
