I'm interesting to buy a WD Live TV and want to know how you have setup your WD live tv in your home.. If you have setup it via Wi-Fi or via cable due performance issue on streaming or other things.. I'd like to have your opinion about the benefits or issue to have an WD Live TV.. and if you have any suggestion on what WD Live Tv is better is appreciate too :-)

Many thanks :-)

I don't have a WD Live Player but I do have a couple of Sony SMP-N100's which pretty much do the same thing. The one in the livingroom which gets used all the time is hardwired to a switch and then to the router. It is connected to my TV via HDMI. All my movies are stored on a NAS type drive and cataloged with Movie Collector. Since I have about 900 DVD's I got really tired trying to store them all in my house. They take up a ton of room. I have them converted to Xvid type video file and I stream them to my Sony box for viewing. I don't recommend hooking up a streaming box via WiFi as I did find some lag in playback also when the microwave was on the movie would stop. I still prefer a hard connecting whenever possible. IMHO WiFi is for portable devices like tablets, iPods, Netbooks.

I have an older WDLive. I use the brad custom firmware on it. To be honest. This lil box rocks. I do not use the WIFI, I am plugged in physically. (I don't think that the WIFI is even available on my generation.) That being said. I'm expecting my Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku2 sometime this week. So I'll check out those WIFI and streaming capabilities. But for what I paid and the custom firmware on the WDHDTV, hands down one of my more favorite toys in the house. =] DLNA FTW!!!

I have a couple of Roku 2s, and as you may have found out it doesn't stream from DLNA servers natively. It does have a great user interface for Amazon and Netflix. I've tried WiFi with it, but prefer keeping it hard wired.

There is a solution for the lack of DLNA support on Roku boxes. There is a Roku channel called Chaneru. It's not fully functional yet with Serviio (it won't play a video to the end), but I've tested it with everything in my library and it seems to handle them all, including high bit-rate Blu Ray rips. Once Serviio version 1.4 is available (Zip says should be before Christmas), then Chaneru should be good to go with Serviio.

I looked at the WD streaming boxes, but the lack of Amazon streaming made it no deal. Although my family has gotten so spoiled with my Serviio server they don't use Amazon or Netflix much!
