Hello

I am trying to find out a way to connect a PC at work to our a TV. We're looking at purchasing a new TV so advice on what to purchase is also helpful.

Our goal is to wirelessly connect the PC to the TV while displaying PowerPoint presentations. Will Serviio work for this, or only some forms of digital media.

Welcome!

No, Serviio will not stream a PowerPoint. It will only stream audio, video or pictures. Now PowerPoint has the ability to save each slide as an image, so in that respect, yes you could use Serviio. However, you won't have any of the PP effects, such as transitions, animation, etc.

Intel does have a new technology in some laptops that will wirelessly transmit the screen image to a TV. It's called WiDi (wireless display) and you can read about it here http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/intel-wireless-display.html

It looks like both Toshiba and LG have made TVs that support WiDi, otherwise you need a receiver box to plug in. If you don't want to buy a new computer to accomplish this, you can buy WiFi adapters that will send the video from any computer to any HDMI equipped TV. I found this page that covers some of that. http://www.wirelessdisplay.com/index.html

Now if you want to be able to stream video, audio or images, Serviio can't be beat. Practically all new smart TVs support DLNA, and most also will connect to your network wirelessly.
