I noticed that there is no TLS encryption in use for securing passwords which has me a bit worried. According to the Media Browser page it uses proven security techniques but does it protect the password. I poked around with wireshark a bit and couldn't find my password anywhere but I still don't trust non TLS communication.

It doesn't send the password anywhere, it uses a token-based security. You can run a SSL / TLS proxy web server in front of Serviio if you want some added peace of mind.
