Poor Playback

From time to time I get a playback problem. Sometimes right at the beginning (as in this case) and sometimes right in the middle of viewing.
Here's a u tube video of what I see https://youtu.be/FudSmTaf29k
Is this fixable or do I just have a bad video file?

Common issue with AVI files made using certain encoders (at least for the ones happening at the beginning) - and easily fixed by remuxing the file.

Assuming you are a Windows user, the easiest way to do this is to use my WinHelper tool here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12136. Drag all offending files to the Remux tab, select "Remux to the same container type" and press Go!. This will recreate the file (old versions are saved as ".old" files so you can recover if this doesn't work - but 99% sure it will ;)).

Thanks for the help but I can't for the life of me find Remux tab in Serviio WinHelper. I think that the yellow icon at bottom is winhelper?

No, that is Serviio Console. WinHelper is a stand-alone program developed by a user (me :-)) - download it from viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12136 (and read that thread for a better description of what it does).

Hmm, I was sure that would be it. Check your CPU while streaming to see its not maxing out. What LAN bandwidth do you have (wireless - if so try wired if possible).

Does it do this for other files types (MP4 etc). What profile are you using?

It's just 5% of the video files (torrent downloads) I want to watch. The other 95% work fine. A wired connection doesn't improve

Can you post MediaInfo (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4510) for an offending file? Lets see if that highlights anything.
Try remuxing it to a different container type. If nothing else works, you may have to re-encode the file.

Nothing stands out from the MediaInfo. Did you try the other suggestions - did either work.

You need to use third party software. I use the free app, XMedia Recode.

Hi,

I suggest that you check the video files with playbacking issues using http://www.divfix.org and attempt fixing them.

If that doesn't do it for you then you could try converting the troublesome files with Divx (default output profile) in the past this fixed some playback issues for me.
http://www.divx.com/en/software/converter/features
I also noticed that Divx encoded files stream alot smoother while still providing good quality and low output filesizes.

Goodluck!
