Connected devices

Hello,

When I look at the list of connected devices in the "status" section, I can see known IP adresses beginning by 192.168.x.x corresponding to my pc, tv or routeur, etc... but there are may be 30 other ones like 192.168.1.131 or 192.168.10.148 which do not correspond to any device I own. What can these devices be?

Serviio saves every connected device IP address, even when the network addressing scheme changes. Perhaps your router was previously using a different address range, or you've changed routers. Just delete them from the list, and as long as they don't reappear, no problem.

But if they come back, you have something on your network that is advertising its IP address incorrectly. This is possible if you have a device, such as a computer, that you can bind multiple IP addresses to the network adapter. Simple devices usually don't have such ability, but computers, business level switches and routers, and such can have more than one IP address assigned. Of course, this requires entering a static IP address in the device, which can't happen without someone actually doing it.

I had to rebuild my Serviio PC a couple of weeks ago (failed SSD C: drive), so my device list is fresh. It has nothing outside my assigned IP address range.

My devices have all static addresses bewteen 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.22 so I was worried it might be other people connecting to my network, which seemed to be unlikely. My router password is very long and uses Mac addresses to control devices connection. Serviio does'nt ask authorization when a device connects to it ?

I also have unusual addresses like 192.168.178.65 / 192.168.43.66 / 192.168.10.xxx

The DLNA standard has no support for authentication. If it's available on the network, permission to connect is automatic. The user account access functionality that Serviio now supports has to be assigned to a device after Serviio has detected it.
