I use Kodi as my player on my Android based devices. It can use Serviio with no problems as a DLNA source. You have to enable uPNP in the expert menu of Kodi. You probably know that Kodi is a fork of XBMC, so there should be no issues there.

Using Plex, regardless of using its own app or using a plug-in within Kodi/XBMC, is that it lacks some features that I use constantly and are available when using Serviio. Plex will not play one movie after another (it will do so for TV episodes), and does not support external playlists in the PLS or M3U format. For my home use, both of those are critical, so Plex is never used on the home network. I do use it when I travel, as my Roku Stick can connect using the hotel WiFi, and the continuous playback and playlists are not as important there.
