will serviio remain free, or will this change in the future?

I'm thinking about putting serviio into the standard OpenIndiana/OpenSolaris distro, just to ease acceptance.
Would this be a good idea, and, Zip, would you be OK with this?

There might be a change in future but there will always be an edition that will be free. Obviously it'll always have a custom licence (EULA) which states what is possible. What it says is
You may not sell, rent, loan or otherwise encumber the Software in whole or in part, standalone or as a part of integrated solutions, to any third party.
meaning if someone takes your distro and puts it on a NAS and sells it, they will be breaking the licence agreement.

That probably means no more than it should have a warning attached when offered in the repository. To avoid the OI community being accused of fostering license breaking.
And it would be OK to sell a nas with a basic OpenIndiana and then tell people where to find extra sw, such as serviio, wouldn't it?

Yes. The just can't sell the nas with a DLNA functionality (provided by Serviio) built-in
