DNLA Certification

Been reading about DNLA certified products and you mentioned you had to take any mention of DNLA off.
I think that was crazy for DNLA to do!

In this wikipedia article it lists Serviio as a certified DNLA server - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Living_Network_Alliance

If it's going to cost, why not start a donation campaign to help get Serviio certified. I'll be more than happy to donate :)
Sony Bravia 2010 52NX803 - Sony PS3 - Xbox 360
Serviio running on QNAP NAS 639 Pro - 1.6 Intel Dual Core - 2GB RAM and QNAP NAS 121 - 2Ghz ARM Marvell - 1GB RAM
Console using ServiiDroid for Android, ServiiMetro and ServiiWP for Windows Phone and WebUI for iOS

Re: DNLA Certification

To be certified, AFAIK you have to:
- be DLNA member ($10k/year)
- have UPnP certification (some similar figure)
- payment for the certification itself, but not so much

In the end it doesn't really bring that much to the table for us, the only thing would be DLNA marketing it.

These kind of figures are totally crazy for a (little) software house and looking at how some of the "certified" devices still don't work as they should it's not really worth it.

Re: DNLA Certification

Ive been reading about this very carefully, you dont have to be a DNLA member to get awarded DLNA certification and be be granted the right to use the DLNA CERTIFIED® logo

There's a FAQ here - http://www.dlna.org/industry/certification/faq/

"before any product is granted DLNA CERTIFIED® status, proof of certification from associated organizations must be verified" - hasnt Sony UK have awarded Serviio the recommended DLNA server for Sony devices.
Sony is the original company that establised DNLA in June 2003

I know Serviio have been very carefull to meet DNLA standards, some Servers breaking rules (ie high res thumnails) but Serviio has remained DNLA compliant

Re: DNLA Certification

http://www.dlna.org/industry/certification/overview/

When a DLNA member company’s product passes certification testing, a licensing agreement may be signed issuing the DLNA CERTIFIED® logo to the qualified product, enabling consumers to identify it as DLNA compliant. DLNA CERTIFIED products enable connectivity and multimedia content sharing between CE, PC and mobile devices.

Sony only recommended it, they cant issue the certification.
