ethernet cable

One ethernet cable coming from router to two different Units. Is there an adapter that splits? Basically I have one ethernet cable in-wall and have two units (PS3 and Wii). How do I connect both, without having to reconnect the cable to either one and without running a second cable from the router? Is there an adapter, splitter, etc...? If you may please also link me to what is needed. Thanks so much!

Re: ethernet cable

You have to use an Ethernet switch :
Example : http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DGS-1005 ... 724&sr=8-1

Re: ethernet cable

Any wireless router will work also, just turn off the WIFI and the DHCP on it. I have 2-3 old "G" routers at home with broken antenna that I save for this purpose.

Make sure you get a smart switch. If you get a dumb switch you could have problems. The one Illico copied looks good.

Re: ethernet cable

I have http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Gigabit ... omputers_0 and it works very well.

You could even just get http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Unmanag ... omputers_1 as 100Mbit ethernet is still more than enough bandwidth for playing back HD content.

Watch about basic switches, there has been a couple of users that could not get more than one renderer to work when going through a basic switch (more like an old fashioned Ethernet HUB).

Re: ethernet cable

Well the one I have has been fine with two devices, and I think I've used it with three at once when I was initially testing it out. I'll have a play at some point to see if I can find the limit.

Re: ethernet cable

If it works with two it should be fine. The one I am talking about could not even use two at the same time.
