Serviio Profile Switcher

It was pointed out on the AVS forum that in order to play avi with the Sony BD S590 a slight mod to the renderer profile was needed. Once a single line was changed I had no problem playing avi videos that earlier drew corrupt or unknown file messages.

There was another mod to the Sony profile to play Divx files. However, it's my understanding once that code is modded, all avi would be transcoded, rather than played natively, and unless you had many Divx files, it would be best to change the FourCC code in the files you wanted to play.

I'm more or less a beginner at this but, is it possible to make a simple batch file to switch profiles as needed without breaking the installation? And will a custom profile allow one to delete profiles not needed such as LG, Panasonic, Philips etc?

You could just copy the entire profile and paste it back in with a new unique ID and with your modification. Probably the easiest way. That way you can flick between them in the status tab of the Console. Click on the Profile name next to your device and you can change it using the dropdown. You need to restart the Serviio service after editing profile.xml.

Oh right, being a newbie to Media servers and streaming, I tend to over think things. There are also some pre-determined profiles I'll never use, that I could modify.

After I asked this question, I read a post where rather than using a modded Sony BDP profile, to use Sony Bravia TV 2012. I tried that and all my files seem to be playing. It may have also help that I upgraded from 0.6.2 to 1.0.1. Not sure where I found the older version.

Thanks for the help. Great forum and awesome software!

btw - are you in the US? I have tested on a new 2012 Sony BDP and MKV files played fine. It was just the AVI files that required a change. I was using a European player.
