serviio 1.0 - missing features !?!?

Hi there.

Congratulations that you got 1.0 (.1) out. Great job. It took a while - but now it seems to be done.

I do have some questions. I havn't looked up the roadmap. I did have a look at the 1.0 feature list though.

If I havn't missed it, I do still miss some IMO key features.

My key issues were ( I reported them during the last year - and it can't be just me)

1. Subtitle support
png (M2TS) or srt
At least on Sony TVs it requires embedded subtitles -- I guess. I do not know about other TVs.
I don't even know if Serviio offers subtitles to the renderer at all.

2. Multiple Audio stream support
For e.g. multi language support I do need to be able to select a specific audio stream
Serviio just offers one stream. That I know. You randomly end up with this or that language
if your container consists of more than one stream.

3. RAW images support
To show/stream raw images it requires a raw-jpg transcoder on the server

At least from my perspective, above are pretty basic key features. The lack of those is known since quite a while .

I'm wondering if any of those made it into 1.0?? Or if addressing any of those is planned in the near future?

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Subtitles - depends on 3rd party tool implementation, which is not done yet
Multiple audio - will be one of the priorities for a next big relese
Raw images - hopefully the same

Any idea on a timeline?

If you talk 3rd party - I guess you're talking about ffmpeg lacking that feature??

For raw/nef conversion appropriate 3pp are available. It can't be that complicated to get it implemeneted.

One more improvement proposal:

I mentioned that before.

One not very nice thing is that a movie gets transcoded 100% - all at once. This will generate temporay files as big as 20-30GB with very high quality material.

A solution to it could be working with fragments.

I'd really like to see a fragmented transcoding process.

E.g. on SSDs the space is always limited. To read and write on the data disk is not that great either.

My proposal would be to allow configurable fragmentsizes. My server e.g. runs with 8GB of memory. I could easily assign 4GB of RAM to Serviio for temporary fragments.
Working with a RAM buffer would seriously speed up things, increase livetime of the storage and would allow for smaller SSD or even pendrive server implmentations.

THX

Not really, just finished 1.0 after 6 months of hard work so want to take a few weeks off to recharge my batteries.

Hello. I think your program would be the best if these 2 features will be implemented.
But what do you mean by "Subtitles - depends on 3rd party tool implementation, which is not done yet"?
There are some servers around there, wich have these features: to change audio streams & subtitles in (transcoded) mkvs. i guess you can peek at them a little, for inspiration. :D
Great work.
