Seriously stumped

I'm feeling incredibly thick but am unable to get this working. I obviously don't fully grasp the concept.

I have this installed on WHS 2011. The server shows up on my Sony 2009 Bravia. I had a test working that showed a BBC news clip but it never updated. I expected new content to show up?

I don't have movie files and am not interested in streaming those. I hope to find public sources on the internet. I understand that I add sources. The sources are of type RSS/Atom feed, Live Stream, and Web Resource. What determines which type to use? The URL prefix or suffix?

Is there a list of sources somewhere that includes the source type in the description, and other instructive details necessary to get it working? Perhaps including a path to a thumbnail? I found the forum with the list of sources but they seem to assume the user already knows how to set them up.

If not streaming my own movies, am I supposed to store additional data on my server?

I appreciate any help offered.

Considering the warning about running out of disk space if a feed includes live streams, how I distinguish an online live feed from a live stream?

May I respectfully suggest the online content management page include complete examples of each, using actual sources that are unlikely to change? If I fully understood the concept of how to set it up, your examples using representative URLs, etc., probably would suffice. Newbies like me would benefit from getting one of each working.

Thanks for your assistance.
