I have used Serviio to stream video, audio and pictures from my PC to our Sony TV with great success and now want to change our video recorder to a DLNA enabled one.

Our current one is Sony, but not DLNA, and we already have a separate Sony Bluray player. I want to be able to copy saved recordings from the new HD Recorder to my PC - can I use Serviio to do this copying/downloading? I have talked to Panasonic and Sony and they say that although the HD recorder can copy to a specially formatted USB HDD, it cannot export to a PC.

Serviio can only stream files from it's library. It cannot copy or download files from another device in your network.

Most recorders will encrypt the recordings, since that's a requirement made by a lot of broadcasting companies. I know that there are certain applications to decrypt the recordings (I. E. my Samsung TV also encrypts the recordings, but I can decrypt them fairly easy).

Thanks for the reply - ideally what I want to do is copy recorded files from the HD recorder to a PC as a repository and then stream them back to the TV to be able to watch them at some point in the future.

It would be nice to have recordings that are not specifically encrypted to a particular recorder as well?

Looking at both the Sony and Panasonic manuals, the USB HDD that can be registered to the recorder will only work with that recorder, which is what I am trying to avoid!

Is there an HD recorder that can export recorded files to a PC for later streaming to the TV?
