Serviio

Hello. What is currently the best renderer device/s to use with Serviio please? i.e. best for me means one that doesn't need transcoding enabled on the server, has complete functionality with Serviio, and is responsive and stable. Thanks.

None is perfect...

Probably Samsung better than Sony devices according to the list of format supported in native.

I bought and returned a WD Live. It couldn't render a lot of what I wanted even though it's spec sheet was impressive. It also only plays one file at a time if several files are in the same folder. For example, I converted a collection of CDs into MP3 files and used my own directory structure for organization and playback. WD Live only plays one track and then stops. I need every file in the folder played in sequence. Weird.

Serviio and my Sony Blu-Ray DVD player do great. I mostly watch hulu and cbs streams but also occasionally watch a downloaded video file with Serviio. I need the transcoding.

My Asus router with a USB drive attached serves my MP3 music quite well. I don't need Serviio for it.

Most of the time the sheet specify the USB interface, not the DLNA interface.
For example USB interface on my Sony Device (2010), supports divx (logo on package) but not on DLNA. So read carefully the specification.

I'm quite impressed with my Sony SNP-N200 boxes (I have three). I've gone to mostly MKV files for my DVD and BluRay rips, and I've seen bitrates as high as 55Mbps with no hiccups (wired gigabit network).

Too bad that Sony seems to have stopped supporting them, and now is pushing a Google TV box. A lot more money for features I neither want or need. All I need is Netflix, Amazon streaming, and DLNA support. Since Roku boxes don't stream DLNA, they are out for me.

Thanks for that. My Sony BDP-S370 Blu-Ray player seems to play things fine. The interface isn't that great though. I prefer the icons, loading progress bars, etc, like on the Xbox. However, Xbox isn't fully supported with Serviio at this stage (e.g. browsing Artists) and I have lots of errors with streaming video with it.

This may be a moot point if you have already returned your WD TV but should you choose to again use it, or for those considering using it, it IS capable of playing files in sequence when they are in the same folder. When you start playback you have to be sure to press the Play button on the remote ( # 13 on this image) and not the OK button located in the navigation keys ( # 6 on image)
