No TV-MA?

Is there a way to block unrated content?

Re: User ratings

I didn't respond before, as I really can't say for sure. No, TV-MA is not an available rating to block. While it is possible to limit a user account to a specific MPAA rating or "safer", I have no idea how it treats unrated material. When I look at the ratings of my media, I see the vast majority of content has no known rating. For the most part, they are titles that were released before the MPAA started rating movies. But I do see quite a number that I know are new enough they should have a rating, such as "The Great Escape".

However, looking up the rating for that movie, I see a major issue with attempting to use them. For this movie, there are dozens of ratings, even within the same country. In the US, there's a different rating for TV vs. playing at a movie theater. And the US movie rating is "Approved", which I had never seen before, and likely explains why Serviio doesn't list a rating for it. When I check themoviedb.org, which is where Serviio retrieves its movie metadata, it is listed as Unrated. Upon further research, I see the MPAA started rating movies in 1968, much later than I thought. I did find a movie made in '86 that shows a PG rating, but Serviio has it as Unknown.

But as to your question about TV-MA, I may have found an answer. When I looked at thetvdb.com, I don't see any ratings for any of the shows I looked up. So there's no such data available for TV shows. For movies that are played on TV that you might record (I have 650 movies I have recorded OTA), Serviio is only going to have the rating assigned for a theatre showing, so a rating like TV-MA simply isn't available for retrieval.

Re: User ratings

Ok, thanks for responding.
Can we make Serviio block unrated or anything that doesn't have a rating that Serviio doesn't recognize, per user?
Is there some config file to edit or would this require an update to Serviio?

Re: User ratings

I expect it would take an update. Zip is the only person that can really answer that. You can send him a PM, or make a posting in the Serviio Bitbucket Issues site: https://bitbucket.org/xnejp03/serviio/issues

Re: User ratings

It shows in your outbox until it's been read by the recipient. I was puzzled by that the first time I used the forum's messaging system too. :)

Re: User ratings

I just checked his profile, and he hasn't been on the forum since mid-May. I have no idea if he has some sort of issue that is preventing him from coming here. With the way the world has gone for the last 18 months, I tend to give people a little grace time.
