Episodes are all named "Episode N".... No real titles.

After switching to 2.3 episodes are no longer listed with their proper titles.
You just get to choose from a list of episodes named "Episode N"

Am I missing some config or something or is this the way it'll be from now on???

(And I would like to see names for seasons, too, of some series.)

Re: Episodes are all named "Episode N".... No real titles.

Hi there! How are your series files named? I have 2.3 on both of my servers, and everything is named correctly. All of my files are named in the same manner. For example, "Columbo - S00E01 - Prescription Murder.mkv" or "Doctor Who - S00E07 - Voyage of the Damned.mkv".

For a few series that have multiple versions with the same title (Dragnet, Hawaii Five-0, Doctor Who, and some others) I include the year the series started to ensure the metadata extractor gets the right version. So for Doctor Who, I have one folder with 1963 in the folder name and another with 2005 in the folder name.

So the name specified in the Episode's file name is supposed to be used verbatim in the presentation?
Are there no further conditions that need be met for this to work? Is the name checked in any way aginst, say, TMDB???

I have a video file "Rosemary & Thyme - S01E01 - And No Birds Sing.mkv" which is presented as "01. Episode 1" under "Rosemary & Thyme -> Season 1 " in Mediabrowser on my PC as well as on my CCwGGTV in either VLC or Kodi.

What am I missing???

P. S. Ideally I would like to see proper episode titles AND proper season titles.
Dalgliesh (1983) should have a season 1 title "Death of an Expert Witness" and Rosemary & Thyme should have a season 1 where episode 1 has the title "And No Birds Sing".

Re: Episodes are all named "Episode N".... No real titles.

There are several variations of file naming that will work, but overall yes some more detail is required in the file name. Serviio does not use IMDB as an online metadata source. It instead uses themoviedb.org. You can use the IMDB ID number, which is supported by themoviedb. See this page for more detailed information about file naming.

atc98092:
I have looked at the link https://www.serviio.org/index.php?optio ... icle&id=12, and I follow those rules, but it does not work.
Where does serviio 2.3 find episode titles? In themoviedb? In the file name? By looking in the video file's internal metadata?

Please comment on this:

I have a file named "Rosemary & Thyme - S01E01 - And No Birds Sing.mkv".
You appear to say that with a name like that the episode should be presented as "01. And No Birds Sing" under season 1 of Rosemary & Thyme.
Instead this episode appears as "01. Episode 1".
Why??

Re: Episodes are all named "Episode N".... No real titles.

I looked up Rosemary & Thyme on themoviedb, and they list the series name and episode name correctly. I don't know why Serviio is not using that name in the metadata. I don't know if it will help, but you could move the files out of the Serviio library location (which removes it from the internal DB) and then add it back to see if it picks it up correctly. I'm not certain the Serviio log will show what's happening unless you change it to detailed logging. But that would only be valuable if you remove the file from the library and then add it back.

Did the log trick, and this is what Serviio told me it did and/or tried to do:

I'll mull this over a bit.... Maybe it's a metadata search language issue????

Yes, it seems there is a problem with my choice of preferred language, I must have misunderstood how this worked.

The fastest way to refresh the library is to remove the files from the Serviio library location then add them back. It might be simplest to simply remove that location from the Serviio shared files library location and then adding it back after a few minutes.

Re: Episodes are all named "Episode N".... No real titles.

I now have "proper", at least somewhat useful, titles on all episodes.
The "Preferred Language" setting for Metadata retrieval was the problem.
Which I think is odd and indicative of a need for better title handling.

I would like to be able to specify a set of "Accepted Original Languages" and a sequence of preferred other languages to use for metadata retrieval.

So that I could specify that if the original language for a series is one of Swedish, English, Danish, German, Italian or French I want the original language title, and otherwise I want the swedish translation of the title.
I think most "minor league language" native speakers would prefer doing things that way.
