Files / Folders not showing..

OK, So I setup everything as best as I could.. I can see the server on my TV and on the Web console page.. My setup is this..
Main Folder - G:\VideoFiles
Subfolders - G:\VideoFiles\Movies G:\VideoFiles\TVShows G:\VideoFiles\Cartoons G:\VideoFiles\Misc
Each Subfolder may contain a few subfolders also (TV Show Name, Movie Groups, etc..)
This is a Windows installation, and seems to be running fine. I can see the main folder I added (G:\VideoFiles\) but cannot see any subfolders, nor can I see any video files. I tried adding one of ths Subfolders to the program library also, but no luck..
When I check the library status, it shows a red dot..
I have been messing with this for hours over the past few days. I have uninstalled and reinstalled.. When I check the log file for serviio it looks normal, with no errors that I can find.. Any thought or help would be very much appreciated.. I can use the normal windows DLNA server, but would much prefer to use this highly rated server software!

Are you using Windows 8? This happens to me every time I restart my computer. Only the main folder files show, not any subfolders.
I finally determined on my system, that I have to go back in and re-share the folder with my video files. For some reason, Windows 8 won't save my shares on reboot. This didn't make sense to me, and I've been told from several different sources that that's how Win 8 works. I don't understand why this changed from Win 7 to 8.
Once I re-share that folder, including Photos and Music, Serviio rescans the drive, which can take forever (I have a lot of files) and the files show up again. All the files are on a second internal hard drive.
If anyone if familiar with this or knows a work around, let us know.

Windows 8 shares dropping out on external drives seems to be a known issue. Google is your friend ("windows 8 network share restart"), try suggestions from

To be clear - you tried assigning full control access rights to the "Everyone" user on your shared folder...?
Anyways, as I understand it if this is an access rights issue you will have it with any software. So, before uninstalling just enable Windows Streaming in Windows Media Player - this will then give you a Windows Media Server on your TV, and see if that has the same problems.

Yes, I gave full access.. and I can see everything fine if I use Windows Media Player streaming.. That is what I was using before.

Is G:\ a local drive? If not, see
FAQ and use of UNC paths instead of drive names

Not really - I'm still thinking an access issue. Try comparing to what I have (also a USB drive)
If you right click one of the sub folders select Share With, Specific People what does it show in there (I have Everyone, Homegroup and the Owner).
Once again, right clicking the folder, Properties, Security: I have Everyone, System, Mark(me), Administrators, HomeUsers, WMPNetworkSvc. All have full access except WMPNetworkSvc (Read). Note the WMPNetworkSvc is used for Windows Media Player streaming.

OK I got it to work finally. I had to change the service to log in as my user, also, I had to add my user into the folders specifically as an owner with full permissions, also I had to re-share the drive.. That seems to have fixed it.. So I can see the folders on my TV now, with all the files.. Though Serviio locked up overnight while loading files, so I just restarted it and it seems to be discovering stuff again.. Need to look at the
FAQ to figure out how to change Metadata, it seems like it discovered a few movies incorrectly...

Serviio (and every other DLNA server I tried) is extremely sensitive to the file name. I have the greatest success using FileBot
http://www.filebot.net. Still get a difficult one occasionally, but it's been a while since I've had the metadata incorrect.

I had the same problem while installing a backup serviio server. It has no problem with local library but the network shared library is empty. --- I am using Serviio 1.4.2 on windows 7 64bit.
Problem solved by correcting a few capitol letters on my UNC path. \\myComputer\myshare --> \\MyComputer\MyShare. Serviio service seems case sensitive on that.

Haven't encountered that with a Windows computer. *nix based systems can be case sensitive, but I've never encountered that with Windows. Is your share on a NAS box? If so, it could be running Linux and that could explain it.
Network share issues are typically almost always related to permissions. Remember that Serviio runs as a local computer service by default, not with your user name. But if that resolved your problem, terrific!
