How can I make Serviio Private?

I'm not talking about a password for Serviio on the internet.. Which is all I can seem to find.

I want to make it private on my Home network so only the people with the password can connect to my PC via Serviio and watch my Videos. I'm guessing this is impossible due to there not being much on this when I google it but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

One of my main concerns is having several people (room mates and their friends) all streaming full HD content to their TV's/Phones while I'm using my PC I'm only guessing but I presume that can't be good for my ping/connection speed and of course steaming content to my own TV. So will having a few people all watching different shows/films from my PC effect my computers DL/UL speeds and ping times or is that nothing to worry about.. I also don't really like the fact that people I don't know very well can browse through my personal photo's and videos but there's nothing too private in my Serviio Library so I'm not as worried about this.

Really appreciate any help!

You can disable access on a per device basis, and you can set it to disable access to new devices by default, so that you have to approve each device on a per IP basis before it can talk to the server. This is set through the main status tab on the console.

If you have the Pro version, you can also use access groups http://www.serviio.org/component/conten ... tion-rules to allow some devices to access all content, while others just some content.

From what you said, the first option would probably cover your needs, you can run Serviio on you machine, and give access to some devices but block everything else on the network. If you have an Android/Windows Phone device, you can enable and disable access to devices from your phone.

Thanks Will I never noticed that little check mark to do that. Really appreciate the quick response thank you!

For anyone who gets here by Googling, I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it but this is what I did.

1. In Serviio Console go to "Status" Tab & find "Enable access for new devices" and uncheck it.
2. Log in to your Router and find DHCP Reservation list (Try googling your router/modems model # to help find this)
3. Get the MAC address of your TV/Phone whatever (again google your devices model followed by "find MAC" to figure out where you can find the MAC address for your device.
4. Using your devices MAC address reserve an ip for the device.
5. Save settings then restart devices & Serviio.
6. Start up Serviio and Serviio Console refresh IP list in Status tab and right click the IP's you set and select Device Allowed.
7. Save settings!

Now only the devices you've allowed will be able to connect to serviio.

Thanks again to Will. Hope my newb question stands here to help someone now.
