Autostart on OSX broken after upgrade to Java 7 Update 45

Hi,

I've been running Serviio for quite some time under OS X (currently 10.8.5) and have had it set to automatically start at boot per the instructions here. Everything was working fine until Java was upgraded to Java 7 Update 45 - Serviio can now no longer run unless it's running under my account.

Does anyone have any idea as to what may have caused this? No changes were made to the plist, permissions, etc.

Update to this: the issue is now fixed, and I think I may have misdiagnosed the root cause of the issue as being related to Java 7 Update 45.

Somehow, I had managed to miss that Apple pushed down an update to Java 6. For reasons that aren't entirely clear, it hadn't installed correctly on the machine running Serviio. This was basically causing Serviio to not autorun successfully; reapplying the update and rebooting fixed the issue. Apologies for the false alarm.

I still have this issue. I did upgrade to OS X Mavericks, installed Java 6u65 (as it was suggested by the OS when launching Serviio) and Serviio launcher always hangs on start-up since then. However, the server starts and works (I can even start and use the Serviio console), until I "Force Quit" the launcher that still stays in the dock in state "Application not Responding".

I've also tried installing and removing Java 7u45, reinstalling Java update 2013-005 from Apple afterall, then reboot - nothing has helped.

Any ideas, what did I do wrong? What else could I try to do?

I even disabled Java 7 and went back to Java 6 by Apple and still have the same problem. I went back to Java 7 Update 45. I'm hoping someone figures this out.

I have Mavericks, Java 7 _25. Note that Serviio is not using Java 7 on OSX, it only works with Apple's Java 6.

What I'm seeing is that Serviio bounces on the dock, then I run Console, all works. If you want to quit Serviio, right-click on Serviio Console and Exit Serviio.

Does the server not work for you at all? Ie, do you have anything in the log?

That is pretty much what happens to me. It's good to know that nothing is seriously wrong. I just find it a little annoying that it stays in the dock and when I right click it it says the program is not responding. Any ideas on why the install of Mavericks caused this to happen.

Hello registered to give my input :) Windows BTW

I was searching Google for help as my setup just randomly wouldn't work.

After finding this thread I decided to reinstall Java which didn't work.

I then uninstalled java and serviio, rebooted and reinstalled them both then rebooted and everything worked fine.

I'm not saying Java or serviio was the issue just giving my input to what apparently "fixed" it in case anyone else finds this thread :)

Best regards

This post is for those of you who upgraded to Mavericks and now your mac is reality slow. After some research and cornering a couple of techs at the Apple store I found out that the Mavericks upgrade is really designed for Macs that are 2011 and newer. Anything older than that will have serious lag issues. Unfortunately the only way to get back to pre update is to reload the OS. If you don't have a backup of your hard drive then you have to do it the long way. I am in the process of getting ready to reload my mid 2007 iMac back to Mountain Lion. It was just about time for a full reload anyway so not a big deal. On the Apple support sites they also reference the fact that Apple Mail and Safari suffer from severe slowness in general on any machine loaded and are working on a patch to be released at some point to correct this.

Bumping this thread. I have the same Serviio Server unresponsive problem on Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) on a late 2012 Mac Mini. I have to Force Quit to reboot the machine. I erased the hard drive and reinstalled Mavericks, installed Serviio, and have the same result. Has anyone figured out a fix or workaround to the incompatibility between Serviio, Java 6, and Mavericks?
Thanks!
B

Go back to Mountain Lion. From what I have read there are a lot of instabilities with Mavericks. There appears to be memory leak/resource problem currently with Safari and Apple Mail. Not sure if they have release an update or not. I just went back to ML and now all is well again.

Still having a problem.

Running latest version on Serviio 1.4 on a mac
Running OSX 10.9.1 Mavericks

Serviio starts on boot but shows as " Application Not Responding" when I right click on the dock icon. Although it does seem to be working properly.

But when I try to shutdown, I cannot until I right click and Force Quit the Serviio application.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?

Thanks.
