unable to get Online streaming/content

Hi,
I have spent the last few days learning alot and after a few false starts, finally managed to get serviio working on my Synology NAS for music, video etc stored on the NAS. This works on my local network and remotely.

Now I have turned my attention to getting online live TV etc. e.g. BBC iplayer, you tube etc. I have added 2 different groovy files to the //serviio/plugins directory, the iplayer.groovy and ITVplayer.groovy.

I then tried a range of different web sources, Rss feeds from the BBC website etc and can get nothing to work. The online folder is showing as empty on all the devices I have tried (ipad, android tablet, tv).

When I put the different feeds into a player like VLC media player, nothing plays - makes me think I am using the wrong addressing? Or is there a crucial set up step I am missing?

First, are you in UK (for iPlayer)?

What are the URLs you are using? Post ServiioLink here (right click on online source in the console, Copy As SeviioLink)

Some of these are live streams (?) which for example the iPlayer plugin doesn't support. the ITV Downton abbey should work - can you see at least the video when you browse the Online sources? Or is the folder empty?

Me too. While ServiiO not have do checking every URL, it not show in the list of available channels. I use TorrentTV and checking of availability too heavy.

Me too.

Serviio gives a red X when I check all of your URLs. Perhaps they aren't broadcasting now?

But I get the same reaction to every online source that I try to add to Serviio.

I've read every Serviio website that seems relevant.

It seems like a good product, but my free trial is rapidly running out, and I will regretfully lose it if I don't find a solution...

Possibility to stream online content is not limited to the trial period.

Thanks, Alfista.

So I can fail to stream for a long time then!

IGNORE THIS POST - zip just told me this, which is a major breakthrough to me!

Usually, if you just have a website URL that has some player on it, it won't just work in Serviio. The URL points to some HTML code (page source code) and the embedded player then uses a real video stream URL to access the media. That URL is normally hidden to users and might be hard to find. That's when plugins come to play, as they have the code needed to work out the media URL. There are many plugins available on this forum, but there might not be one for the particular page/server you want to use. There is not fit-them-all solution.

The types are:
- online stream - for URLs that are already video streams (not web pages) - ie, what the embedded player on a web page might use. This is only useful if you know that URL and normally only available for live streams (not VOD content)
- rss feed - used when you have a feed with a list of videos. Sometimes the feed includes actual video URLs, in which case it doesn't need plugin. In other cases it includes list of web page URLs (e.g. YouTube), in which case it needs a plugin.
- web resource - used when there is no structured feed. It always requires a plugin. You enter a web page URL (one that the plugin requires, see the plugin description on this forum), the plugin will try to work out the list of videos on that page and then try to get the video stream URL for each of these videos.

As I said, i'ts not trivial, but you might find serviidb.org useful (or it's integration in ServiiDroid or other 3rd party UI apps).

I recently posted this elsewhere, but it might add to this thread. I hope it does.

've been trying to get Serviio streaming from the internet working, and failed with all except samples from this forum.

In particular the NASA stream works without a plugin (I think).

My detailed log, containing various attempts, show

If I want to stream something off the net, do I have to find a plugin before I do anything else? But, if so, why does the NASA one work without a plugin?

I'm now beginning to understand that the foodnetwork plugin doesn't work, and the cwtv plugin isn't available in the UK. I presume that I must search the Available Plugins thread for the aoso streams, and request them if they aren't there.

Is this right?

The You Tube wicki is wicked!
