Question about file size Limit

Hello everyone,

i have been using Serviio for over a year now and i am quite satisfied with the program. Recently i encountered a problem, which seems not to be related to the program itself but i hope you can clarify the issue anyway.
I wanted to stream a Movie file to my Sony Bravia KDl40 which usually works quite well. I Use Freemake Videoconverter to adjust the file Format and this works fine too. In this case someone else converted it using a different setting which resulted in a much bigger video file, over 5GB to be exact. The movie played fine until exactly 30:00 after that it stopped with the error message Replay not possible. I tried the same with Windows Media Player streaming and the same thing happened. Scaling the file down to under 4GB solved the problem and lets the movie run smoothly.

I read somewhere, that there is a file size limit for some TVs and my question is, if you can confirm this, is this specific to Sony and are there any known workarounds?

Thank you in advance and may the powers that be relocate this thread if its in the wrong subforum.

Can't speak to a Sony TV, but my Sony Media players and Blu-Ray player has no issue with my Blu-Ray rips which exceed 20gig. My Panasonic TV can also play them fine.

I can't see how the file size would be a factor, since the video is being streamed. The TV is not opening the file itself. The server running Serviio is the one opening the file. I'm more suspicious that the other person had something in their file conversion that was bad, and your reconvert fixed it. Since it was stopping at exactly 30 minutes, that's far from the first 4 gig portion of the file. I would expect a ripped DVD file of 4 gig to be two hours or more.

I guess i could try and get a hold of the original rip which is 13 gb big and convert it again. But wouldnt a corrupt conversion affect the file when i play it in vlc as well. because there it runs fine. I Guess i should also try another file of that size see if thats really the issue. I didnt think of a conversion problem because i thought freemake is something where you cant really do anything wrong.

Well, I have some files that Serviio recognizes as corrupt and will not list (I had a hard drive failure, without losing all the files). Some will still play with Windows Media Player, others won't. I guess it depends on what the problem is.
