Roku Profile Needed - Now Supports DLNA

I am not sure if Roku adheres to all DLNA specs at all but it appears Roku Media Player App from Roku apps store seems to find network DLNA server and play medias well. It found my serviio then I used default Chaneru profile for the Roku which seems to play most of the file but online contents are different story.

i am calling on all device profile pros to help us out with online portion of the profile. Is it even possible?

A Roku profile or even a Serviio application for a Roku player would be excellent.
I noticed this DLNA support recently too and it plays mkv, mp4, jpg and mp3.
Unfortunately online sources and avi files are not recognised.

Put beta profile together based upon Plex Roku DLNA profile and Chaneru profile. I am not sure if this even works as i have not yet tested with Roku Media Player App. If anyone willing to give it a test drive - have at it.

Thanks for pointing out the new Roku channel. I can't get it to work. It shows all my DLNA devices (two machines running Serviio, a Windows Home Server and several Windows 7/8 PCs), but when I try to select one I get a Server Connection Error saying it can't connect. Doesn't matter which DLNA device I try, or if it's video or audio. I'll be posting on the Roku forum to check for any ideas there, and if anyone here has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. I know there's no connectivity issues, since the Roku connects fine to Netflix, Amazon, as well as my server running Plex or using the Chaneru channel. Something odd...

OK, resolved the Roku connectivity issue. If anyone is interested, the Roku has some "secret" menus, and one of them allows disabling Ping replies. That cured the issue, and also resolving the Roku not believing it was connected to a network (even though it was and everything worked). :lol:

Now, I can see my Serviio machines, but the only videos visible are my few MP4 files. Virtually all my videos are in MKV containers. I've tried both the Chaneru profile and the one npuser posted above. No luck with either. I'll have to play around with the profile some more. :(

I will say the Roku Media Player seems to handle high bit rate videos quite well. I have a couple of HD MP4 files, and they seemed to play perfectly. Using MediaInfo, I see they have an average bit rate over 16Mbps, and I didn't think a Roku could handle that fat a stream.

looks like there are two verions of ROku devices -v3.x and v5.x. A minor mod for v5 but i am still not sure this even works.

I tried making the user agent a wild card (*.Roku.*), but still can't see any of my MKV files. Only the MP4 videos and MP3 music files.

Changing the profile to Generic DLNA (Roku is 192.168.0.16) makes mkv files playable on the ROKU.

Could you provide format supported by your roku device ? (see signature link about Intel Upnp spy tool...)
It seems that your device does not support MPEGTS container, only MP4 or HLS, but serviio does not support this MP4 container for output transcoding...

As far as I know Roku only supports mp4 and mkv video files.
On how to find out additional information about this then I just dont know.
It only serves the purpose of a client and is not a server.

This is excellent.
I just changed the profile to Windows 8/RT and it now plays the online streaming, mp4 and mkv, I will keep trying different profiles.

Sorry I cant be more specific but in the Generic DLNA it plays mp4, mp3, mkv and jpeg
In Windows8/RT it supports all the above file types and it appears to be the only profile which suports online streaming. Mkv files seem to stream better in this profile too.

Avi files do not play in either profile. Avi is not naturally supported by Roku. In either profile then connection to Serviio is lost quite easily.

I also used the spy tool, but the Roku doesn't appear. For some reason the box doesn't respond like a normal DLNA player. Didn't make a difference if the Media Player was running or not. I even started the Chaneru player, but still nothing.

I don't unsderstand, Marksuk said that mkv files play on his Roku (with generic profile and W8RT) ...

I stand corrected, I just tried mkv files again and they do not play correctly at all, apologies, just mp4 video and online files are ok with profile Windows8/RT. :) Other profiles do not show online videos.
