I'm not sure I understand - does your son have an Xbox 360 at his college location, that he wants to connect to your Serviio server at your home location? If so, unfortunately not possible over DLNA without using VLAN's or the like (which is not for the faint hearted. Requires good/expert networking knowledge and large bandwidth).

Assuming you have the Pro version of Serviio, your son can however watch movies on his PC, iPad, tablet or phone by using either Mediabrowser or ServiiGo (on Android devices). For Mediabrowser he would connect on http://ip_address:23424/mediabrowser where ip_address is your external ip address (you can find this at http://whatismyipaddress.com/).

You will need to ensure port 23424 is forwarded in your router if not already (you can use this to test: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/) - the easiest way to forward is to use Serviio to automatically configure your router (on the Remote tab in Serviio Console). If that doesn't work, you will need to search the web on how to manually port forward for your particular router.

Once you have all that going, search Google for "Dynamic DNS" - a DDNS will allow your son to access your home server without knowing your external IP address (which for most people changes from time-to-time, so while OK to test with cannot be used reliably in the longer term).

Some of this is also described here: http://serviio.org/mediabrowser#remote_access

So I couldn't figure out to put this in it's own thread or on this one. I am trying to access my Serviio mediabrowser on a windows 7 pc on another network. I have gone through all the steps, and after some headache because I have a comcast router set as a gateway, and then my cisco router. I finally got both to forward the port properly, and I get a green checkmark, I also check my port at: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and confirmed. I am able to watch movies through my ServiiGo app. I can also use the media browser at xx.xxx.xx.xx:23424/mediabrowser (xx.xxx.xx.xx being my computers static IP address.)

I have tried all variations to access my remote serviio server on the web browser of my pc on a different network. I use my external IP address as the http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:23424/mediabrowser. I also have my http://xxxxxxxx.dnsdynamic.com:23424/mediabrowser that I have tried. So to sum up, I have my external IP that goes to my Comcast modem, which then goes to my Linksys Cisco router, then to my desktop that has the server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you can go through Serviio (3g?) then your setup is already correct.

I was able to get my remote settings to work correctly, but then my connection on my local network wouldn't see the server. I have several devices including two WDTV players which I know do not play well with Serviio. I reinstalled Serviio to default settings and was able to see the server on my local network again. However, when I go through the steps to get it to work remotely, the server stops showing on my local network. I am not sure what would cause this. Any ideas? It is more important to have it available on my local network, but I really would like the remote to work at the same time.
