iow, does Serviio write metadata to media files, or does it store metadata in a database when scanning the library? i don't want existing metadata changed.

The metadata is contained in the main Serviio database. There are several ways of populating this data, look at the Metadata tab in the console and click the drop-down box. In reality, the two typical ways are either using online resources (this is the default way) or local .nfo files. Unfortunately, you can't pick and choose which method a particular file uses. Its all one way or all another.

And no, it won't change any metadata contained within the file itself.

Looks like I missed that part. Thanks, Will!
