Hello everyone,

I wish that you could help me, I have a problem to join Serviio (In linux or Windows XP) with VLC. Serviio server can streaming with Samsung Galaxy with All Share, this work perfect, but when I need to streaming to a Windows's Desktop I can't. The VLC Client when I follow the wiki section "How To view Serviio in Windows via VLC 2.0" and I select "Local Network" --> "Plug and Play Universal", the VLC media player close automatically and the when I open it again, asked me to send a crash report of VLC client. So I need to fix this or chose another DLNA client for Windows and Linux desktop ,and may be with Western Digital Media Players and Smart TV (Samsung, LG).

I already have tested the following clients

- Banshee media player
- XBMC
- Windows Media Player (not Classic)
- kinsky

Thank you very much and I appologies for my english writing

If you have any question of my post please let me know and I try to explain better

Good Bye

I add some information because may be the problems is the url that I need for VLC

1) If I start servii service, the port N° 8895 is open, but if a stop the servii service (server status: Stopped, I do it in the servii console tab "Status") the port is close

2) If I start only Servii console I have two port more 44331 and 44332

3) If I close Servii aplication (Exit Servii in Windows) automatically close ports 23423 and 23424

The firewall is stopped

Thank you very much

There are known problems with the latter versions of VLC. Version 2.1.3 does not work.
You need to get an earlier version of VLC - I have tested with version 2.0.6 and it works (albeit it is still a slow and clunky DLNA client).

DenyAll,

It's work fine, but I agree with you that it's too slow. You have tested another DLNA client in Windows or Linux?

Thank you very much for your help

Best Regards

I tested a couple and wasn't satisfied with any. I then wondered why I was bothering - it is easier to simply use Media Centre software (eg. XMBC) and access your media files via a network share to the drives your media is stored on. This produces a nicer user interface, gets more detailed user metadata and is a lot easier.

IMHO, it's horses for courses. DLNA is great for streaming media to TVs, DVDs, and other relatively dumb devices, but for other PCs it's better and easier just to share the files.

The free version of MediaMonkey works fine with Serviio. See http://www.mediamonkey.com/.
