Hello.

I'm trying the trial for the pro version, and am toally lost...

I tried everything I can think of, so came here to get help I hope.

Issue:

Installed program, all good, service starts, and I can choose directories I want to share etc.

Hard drives start scanning, etc, so all seems good.

but.....

No device on my network will see serviio..
I tried opening ports, going into firewall and adding the service to allow list, etc..

Get the Java it wanted.. but no go..

I"m using windows 8.1 pro 64bit.

Please help..

Some of the usual questions.

What type of firewall, built-in Windows or 3rd party?

Are all network devices on the same IP addressing range (i.e. 192.168.0.x, Subnet 255.255.255.0)?

Wireless or wired connections? How many network switches, brand and model number?

Any routers between your Serviio computer and the rest of the network?

If Serviio isn't appearing, how about Windows Media sharing? Does your computer show up on any other device as a Windows source?

If it doesn't even appear as a Windows Media Server, then you have something amiss with your network. If you are connecting wirelessly, some routers/Wireless Access Points have the ability to hide your network from the wireless users. This allows guests to connect to the Internet without touching your internal network. If you are connected via Cat5/6 cable, then there must be a router/firewall somewhere blocking one segment from another.

Tough to troubleshoot network issues without being there.

Thanks for the suggestions..

I do see windows media shares on other devices, and If I install PLEX or twonky, they are seen also..

However serviio and mezzmo are not seen..

I think I have solved the issue, but will confirm after a few days of testing..

I belive that my program TOTAL MEDIA PLAYER was the cause.. It seems to have a service that runs also when computer starts up.. I decided for fun to shut this service off, then, NOW I can see serviio..

Very weird, but will see how the next days go..

Thanks so much again for the awesome suggestions..

Total Media Player must have attached itself to the same port Serviio uses (23424). That would explain it.

Good job troubleshooting! :D
