Problem with choppy playback after new laptop

Hi

I've been using Serviio for a few years now with no problems, it would always play whatever I threw at it every time. A couple of months ago I got a new laptop, I installed Serviio and set it up the same way I did on my old one (I think!) The problem is now with every video I try to watch it'll usually start to pause and buffer a couple of seconds after I start playing so I'll pause it for a minute and that always solved the problem if I had it in the past (rarely) but not now. It might play for another 10 minutes but then it'll start buffering again so I pause it then it will work fine for another 5-10 minutes and so on.

Is there anything I could be missing on the new laptop that I need to install or a setting I could fiddle with to get it to work better? The spec of the new laptop is vastly superior compared to the old one but I am yet to watch a single video without problems. I am watching on a PS3 which is connected to my router wirelessly (but this always worked well in the past)

Thanks

Try:

  • connecting the laptop to the router via an ethernet cable (rather than wirelessly which I presume is the case).
  • check your CPU usage while streaming a choppy movie
  • check you disk usage - is it being thrashed
  • does your new laptop have an SSD drive? If so do you have another disk (to point the temporary transcoded files to).
  • check Java is up to date
See if any of this helps. If not, post some more info (laptop specs, Operating System, detailed log). Did anything else change (router?). Does it happen with both HD and SD movies?
