Serviio

I have some video files that doesn't appear on every player. It is visible and playable with MediaBroswer and on my Roku boxes. It appears on my Panasonic but won't play, and my Samsung TV or BD player or Sony BD player doesn't even show it. MediaInfo is below for two of the files.

It's not being a M2TS file, as others show up and play. I don't think it's the HD audio, because again I have both MKV and M2TS files with both Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio, which plays on the Samsung BD player with no issue and full bitstream audio. Thast said, TrueHD is the constant between the two files below.

On 2nd thought, maybe it is the TrueHD. I just checked all my M2TS files and they all have DTS, not Dolby HD audio, except for a couple that I tried with FLAC. Humm.

Check the profile, it is possibly missing transcoding rule for this combination. It should probably transcode vc1 to mpeg2 and truehd to ac3.

I think it might just be the audio. It plays the same files except with DTS Master Audio without transcoding. The profile I'm using right now only transcodes wtv containers, so I'll add a line to change audio to AC3. That's ok, right? I can change the audio without touching the video?

Yep, it was the TrueHD audio. Apparently it won't play in a M2TS container, but will in a MKV container. By transcoding the audio to AC3, they now appear as expected. Bummer, since I was using M2TS because that allows selecting captions. With MKV, the player recognizes there are captions but doesn't actually display them. As an M2TS file, my guess is the player treats it as an actual BD disc.

Guess I'll switch them back to MKV, so I don't have the overhead of transcoding.

The player might support it, but I assume the codec / container combination is not a valid DLNA profile (or not one implemented by Serviio yet). So Serviio doesn't serve it.

For MKV - it's always served as until recently MKV was not even a DLNA supported format but generally accepted by some players.
