Problem Playing Files From External Storage

Running Serviio 1.5.2 on an iMac
Using a WD TV Live streaming box to play video files on my TV
In the Library Tab of the Serviio console I have 2 shared folders that have video files in them.
1. Is a directory that resides on my iMac hard drive.
2. Is a directory that resides on an external hard drive that is connect to my wireless router and available to any computer on my home network.
The files are identical in both locations. I use the external storage as a backup for my iMac HD.
Files from 1. play properly through the WD TV.
But when I try to play files from 2. it keep saying the file format is not supported. It recognizes the directory and files but when I go to play them I get the error.
Why would the identical files play from one location but not the other?
