OS X console takes ten minutes to start

Hi, I just installed Serviio for the first time. The server seems to be running ok, but the console takes more than ten minutes before it shows its window. I noticed a couple of other unanswered posts in this forum saying the console won't start up on OS X.

The icon bounces in the dock for about 30 seconds, and then I see a message about allowing incoming connections, which I allow. After that... nothing. It doesn't take a lot of CPU, it's not frozen. If I choose "About ServiioConsole" from the menu, it shows me the little "about" window. But there is no main window. More than ten minutes later, the main window finally appears. No idea what it's doing the whole time! If I quit and restart the console, the same thing happens again, I have to wait another ten minutes.

I can't find a log for the Serviio-Console application. Nothing gets printed in the OS X Console.

Using a 2012 MacBook Air.

What if you right-click on the Console icon in the dock and select Open Console

Sorry I took so long to answer...

For the first ten minutes, there is no "Open Console" option in the right-click menu of the dock icon. Just the standard Keep in Dock, Hide, Quit, etc.

Then after the console window finally opens, the other options such as "Open Serviio Console", "Library automatically updated", etc., show up in the right-click menu.

ok, check the console log pls. It's under the console application (go to Applications, right - click on the icon, browse contents)

I don't see any log file inside the Serviio-Console application bundle.

I found /Library/Application Support/Serviio/log/serviio.log but there don't seem to be any entries in it related to the Console starting up.

I tried setting DEBUG in the log4j.xml file, in both the config directory and inside the Console application, but still didn't see anything from Console in the serviio.log file...

Anything else I can do to help test this? Another place to look for the log?

Apart from that, everything seems to work ok, so it's useable. Just a bit of an annoyance.

I'm not sure. It might be something to do with the network, as the console is trying to open a socket to make sure only one instance is running.

Alternatively
- live with it for now and wait for 1.6 which will have a web based console (still some time away from release)
- use remote console
- use the current third party web console
- use ServiiDroid, if you have Android device
