Good evening,

I have a lot of MPEG-2 files with extension m2v in my private video library.
Is there any option to add them to the file library of Serviio and to make them playable through UPNP?

If not do anybody know a simple converter to make them playable with Serviio?

Greetings

Nicke

I am not sure about adding them for upnp but if you want to convert them handbrake is free and works very well. I converted my library to .mp4 since it seems to be compatible with almost everything.

uPnP has nothing to do with playing them. Serviio uses the DLNA standard. uPnP is a networking protocol. :D

I agree that conversion to MP3 would be most beneficial, as virtually everything can play them without transcoding. As far as how to do it, there should be hundreds of programs available for that. Handbrake can do it of course, as can FFMPEG from the command line. Someone could likely even offer a script to automate the entire thing, but I'm not familiar enough with FFMPEG to do it.

I just entered "convert m2v to mp3" into Google and came back with 430,000 returns. Find something for free and give it a try. Just watch for them wanting to install something you don't want. Often freeware includes "optional" software that is selected by default. :x

Before you start re-encoding things , try changing the extension from .m2v to .mpg . I think Serviio will find it. The name change won't damage
your file, you can always change it back.

Hello People, thanks for you rreplies.

I just want to say OMG, renaming the files worked very well

I'm a specialist in information technique and sometimes I think in many complikated ways.

And sorry for my mistake to say UPNP instead of DLNA.... Evertime I say UPNP everyone knows what mean.

In case of this.

Thank you

Good night, good fight! 8-)
