What is correct path to an external disk on Mac?

However, this does not work. When I select "Add Local" then "Volumes" nothing happens.
What am i missing?
Serviio is working great on the videos on my mac's hard drive but I need it on the external hard drive too (connected to teh same mac's USB port).
