Solved-Question about MediaBrowser upload speed requirements

Hello,

I use Serviio for several years now and I'm still very happy with it. Recently I came across something that I m not sure if its an issue or just a limit of my current equipment. I try to stream over the internet on original quality and I get a lot of stuttering. The videos I'm streaming are all high bitrate 1080p rips and my internet upload is 10Mbps.

While streaming locally on my TV using the DLNA protocol everything works fine ( note that my TVs LAN link is also 10mbps), however when I'm streaming through my web browser online then the video stutters a lot. On medium quality is significantly better but it also stutters and on low quality everything works great.

I wonder if this has to do with my upload speed or with something else since my upload isn't that bad and should suffice at least to stream on medium.

Thanks in advance

Remember that your Internet speeds are not quite as high in the real world. Your 10 Mbps is likely no higher than 8.5.

Most HD rips I have stream at over 20 Mbps average, with some peaks over 35. Honestly, your 10 Mbps speed is only sufficient for DVD quality streams. I encounter the same issue if I stream when I'm traveling. My DSL is only 5 Mbps up, and it only tests about 4. At that speed, I even have issues with DVD quality at times.

Thanks for the answer. In Sweden its a bit different when it comes to internet connections. My upload is actually more like 11.5Mbps although I pay for 10Mbps. I can upload to FTPs and such @ 1.5MB/s something that is slightly above 10Mbps per se. Any way now I know :)
