Metadata confusion

I maintain a small movie library and use the software Subler to add the metadata and artwork to my movie files. I've confirmed that the metadata I've added to those files is present and displays in iTunes properly (correct artwork, details, etc). When I use Serviio to stream the movies I notice that Serviio uses its own metadata (artwork and movie naming). Normally this isn't a problem except when there are multiple versions of a movie (i.e. a remake for instance). Serviio will use the artwork for the latest remake of the movie rather than what I had saved with the file. The movie The Day the Earth Stood Still for instance. The version I have is the original from the 50s and I saved the proper artwork and details for that version of the movie. Serviio displays the movie using the latest remake artwork and details. Again this is kind of an "in the weeds" issue as the software works perfectly in regards to streaming the media file. I would ask if there is a way to configure Serviio to use the metadata that is saved with the file rather than it's own. Thanks! -LB

You might try changing the setting in the console under Metadata and tell Serviio to not use metadata. However, that might mean it doesn't pass through what the file contains. I've never tried that.

Besides using the IMDB ID, you can also ensure your files follow the proper naming convention. For movies, make sure the year is included in parentheses at the end of the name. For TV episodes, it's a little more complicated. See this page for more details: http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=12
