Re: Any real fix to "Cannot connect to server, it doesn't...

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem. It keeps repeating, no matter the version I've used. After a few months of working just fine, I keep receiving the same message: "Cannot connect to the server. It doesn't seem to be running", always after a restart, with no changes in hardware or software.

I've been using Serviio for at least 4 few years now and it worked great on 2 TVs, no matter the version. Not a single real problem until, with each version and out of the blue, I come to a point where it fails to load anymore, without me making any changes to the system. I usually leave my PC on for days or weeks, but sometimes I have to shut it down or restart it. That seems to be the trigger for the message. If I do an uninstall and reinstall the same or another version, it will work again. But it's a bother. My library is now quite big and it literally could take half a day or more to load it again. I would rather find out what the problem is and resolve it, than keep uninstalling.

I've read about possible solutions on the forum, but they don't seem to work. I've tried a delay start through regedit, I've tried restarting a bunch of times, I've tried repairing/uninstalling Java related files, running it as admin, and a few other things - the console won't start - it will always give me the "Cannot connect" message.

Windows 7 (64) with a variable IP due to ISP. Serviio version 1.9.2

Here's how my log looks like (I've removed the media files being played or added, the rest is there entirely) for the last month:

the server stopped. Might be user action, or a crash. Will need detailed log of when this happens again.

Re: Any real fix to "Cannot connect to server, it doesn't...

No clue what happened, but after the next steps it works again (for the moment at least). This might help others or not:

Step 1: Made the change to the log file (from INFO to DEBUG).
Step 2: Started Windows Services and searched Serviio. It was stopped. I've started it. It stopped again by itself.
Step 3: Opening the log file, it was exactly the same as before.
Step 4: Back to Services, clicked Start a bunch of times, each time it stopped after a few seconds. Tried again and before it stopped, clicked Restart.
Step 5: Opening the log file, it was exactly the same as before.
Step 6: I've ran the ServiioService.exe and Serviio.bat from the "bin" folder and tried to open the console again.
Step 7: Opening the log file, it was exactly the same as before.
Step 8: I've moved the log file in a backup folder and created a new txt file from scratch, empty, which I renamed "serviio.log"
Step 9: Repeated step 4.
Step 10: The new log file is now different (edited out the multimedia file names, the rest is unchanged):

Re: Any real fix to "Cannot connect to server, it doesn't...

The log should have giving an indication about why it wouldn't start, but your paste doesn't include that portion of it. There's usually something that points to an error somewhere. Anyway, glad you resolved it.

And a quick update:
Had to turn off the PC again. :D Yes, it was on since my last message. Console stopped working again after restart with the cannot connect to server message. This time I wanted to try something else.
I directly started Serviio.bat and ServiioService.exe then the console started as well. I still don't know what the connection is, but they seem to be the solution.

You have a database error. I suggest removing Serviio and installing it clean. Do not attempt to restore a backup, and just configure it as a new install. It will take a little time, but it should resolve your DB issues.
